Purpose of the role  

The Global Data Controls Design- AVP primarily supports the Protect pillar of the strategy as part of the Global Data Management Office (GDMO).Design and enable the data controls framework which is in line with risk appetite, policies, guidelines and regulations across the Bank.Collaborate with data operations and execution team to assist translation of policies into actionable stepsCollaborate with Technology, architecture and Data Management representatives from all Global Businesses (GB) / Global Functions (GF)/ Markets to help implement the data controls in line with the policiesThe role holder will report to the VP- Global Data Controls Design Lead within Data and Analytics Office (DAO).The role holder will support the design Work Stream to engage stakeholders & SMEs from Businesses and Functions to understand and assess regulatory & HSBC's Data Management policy requirements. The role holder will be responsible for analysis and documentation of data management best practices, including process level controls required for data standards, lineage, quality & trusted sources for data sets

Data and Analytics Office (DAO): 

The principal goal of the DAO is to transform HSBC into a truly data-led organisation and support the delivery and implementation of the Group Data Strategy. It will drive the delivery of the Group Data Strategy across the 3 pillars - Protect our data, connect to our people, Unlock value for our customers. Starting with clear, unambiguous data definitions and culminating in trusted insight from well managed and controlled data, DAO plays a pivotal role as the data conscience for the Bank.

The responsibilities of the team include setting out and subsequently holding Global Businesses and Functions accountable to follow a unified Data Strategy. This includes ensuring data is unambiguously defined, that it is controlled and managed to an appropriate level of quality, that Businesses/Functions comply with internal data policies and external data regulations, that data is sourced from appropriate (ideally "trusted") sources.

The objectives of the team include playing an active role in coordinating the delivery of strategic data capabilities, providing effective monitoring and controls, consistently reporting and ensuring that the strategic future vision for data across the enterprise is realized.

In this role, you will:

Design Management:

Work on delivery of Data Controls design for global or select markets, businesses, and functionsUnderstanding of industry patterns and practices for systems, data and integration with emphasis on enterprise scale technologies(cloud/non-cloud) and business managed toolsUnderstand Requirements/ Gaps and propose control design changes in accordance with Policy and Procedures.Shape and Document design guidelines / changes to bring business closer to data control goals.Guide Design -Senior Analysts within the team on Gap Analysis/ supporting with design requirement discussions etc.Document Control design proposals before it can be presented in governance forums.Work closely with all representatives from GDMO operations, GDT, DAO Business and Functions to collaborate on the data controls related topicsWork with tooling, architecture teams to access the dependencies early in the Design proposal phase. Evaluate the overall time to rollout enhancements / changes required for Data Controls implementation.

Non-technology Delivery:

Closely coordinate with Tooling/Dashboarding teams on data control design related risk and controlsWork on design proposals across the data control stream and help drive it independently.Provide adequate Support to Design leads on managing the design Book of work.Ability to convert business needs into technical/functional requirements and analysis/ MI ReportsProvide flawless execution by the team through effective management and incorporating necessary quality checks that has been signed off by senior /manager.Contribute towards the quantifiable process improvement goals of the teamMaintain a continued focus on continuous improvement across areas of responsibility

Customer Experience:

Contribute to formulation of the strategy around the customer journey and the component parts of this to create a holistic customer experience by prudent expectation setting and managementFocus on user experience for Data Management in support for data control design and implementationRepresent data controls design by understanding the requirements and developing appropriate controls supporting customer needs and wants.

Stakeholder Management:

Responsible to connect and coordinate with stakeholders from controls tooling teams, DAO representatives from GB/GFs, IT Product owners, Global Technology, Architects to socialize the design proposals.Regular coordination with Operations team to stay connected on upcoming change triggers.Collaborate with Technology, architecture and Data Management representatives from all Global Businesses (GB) / Global Functions (GF)/ Markets to understand gaps and implement the data controls in line with the policiesResponsibility for resolving data control related issues challenges triggered from data operations for Business/ Function/ Markets

Leadership & Teamwork 

Make a positive contribution to the Data Design Team's effort to meet GDMO objectives and improve data design in generalPartake in training and skills development within the GDMO to build knowledge around data governanceLiving and building HSBC values and building longer term shareholder value.Contribute to an enjoyable, inclusive team atmosphere.Take ownership and support the end-to-end implementation of strategic solutions

To be successful you will:

Knowledge and understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations in a Global Bank.Familiarity of implementing data management with one of the following frameworks – DAMA / DCAMAbility to work in cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal skills and drive for successWritten and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop and effectively communicate complex concepts and ideas. Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.Subject matter knowledge on data-related issues, solution, lineage toolsCloud technologies, Business Managed Applications/ tools and working knowledge of AI and analyticsRoot cause analysis and issue resolution.

Others

9+ years plus of Data governance/Design, Data Mapping, Data Science and Data project managementexperience or equivalent. Knowledge and understanding of financial services preferred.4-year bachelor's or master's degree from reputed university in Computer Science, Engineering or other technical discipline.Adaptive to multi data environment with quick learning ability to learn infrastructures.Understanding of Data, Exposure / Experience to data visualization tools like Qlik Sense, Tableau.Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint. Visio, VBA, Jira, Data management Tools.Experience of of using tools like Transformer / Xceptor / Appian / Alteryx etc.Exposure to document and content management utilities like Confluence etc.Adaptive to change environment and capable of delivering in matrix organization.Knowledge of data classification and related regulationsAbility for logical thinking, eye for detailsDesired banking knowledge / quick learning aptitude and ability of developing knowledgeEffective written and verbal communication skills to work with multiple sites across geographiesExposure to SDLC and Agile methodologies.
