THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Principal DevOps Engineer at Xactly, you will be filling a mission-critical role ensuring that our complex systems are healthy, monitored, automated, and designed to scale. You will use your background as an operations generalist to work closely with our development teams from the early stages of design all the way through identifying and resolving production issues. The ideal candidate is passionate about an operations role that involves deep knowledge of both the application and the product. They will also believe automation is a key component to operating large-scale systems.

The Sr. DevOps Engineer will serve as the primary contact responsible for the overall health, performance, and capacity of one or more of our Internet-facing services. Assisting in the roll-out and deployment of new product features and installations to facilitate our rapid iteration and constant growth. Some other responsibilities will be developing and owning procedures for configuration management, monitoring, scaling etc.

THE TEAM

All engineers are encouraged to operate independently with a high level of accountability, but also be a team player and work with multiple teams.

THE SKILL SET

  • 11+ years in a Linux-based large-scale web operations role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Git and version control systems.
  • Expertise in designing and managing cloud-agnostic CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and delivery.
  • Kubernetes, Docker, and Harness expertise for multi-cloud container orchestration.
  • Hands-on experience in building and troubleshooting APIs.
  • Automation experience using Jenkins, Rundeck, and scripting languages like Python, Bash, Perl, and Ruby.
  • Strong experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning across multiple cloud platforms.
  • Expertise in cloud-agnostic DevOps strategies, including hybrid/multi-cloud deployments (OCI, AWS, Azure, GCP, on-prem).
  • Previous experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar software engineering role.
  • Proficiency with configuration management tools such as Chef.
  • Experience in implementing observability & monitoring solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with web-based Java/J2EE architectures and JVM configuration.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, relational/non-relational databases, networking, Linux internals, filesystems, and web architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud strategies.
  • Production experience with MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, JBoss, and Tomcat.
  • Familiarity with service mesh technologies for cloud-agnostic networking.
  • Experience with FinOps and cloud cost optimization across multiple providers.
  • Expertise with load balancers like HAProxy, Envoy, and cloud-agnostic API gateways.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-driven DevOps tools for predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and intelligent automation.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (listening, speaking, writing).
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, collaborative, and cross-functional environment with DevOps Engineers, SREs, Product Managers, and other stakeholders.

WITHIN ONE MONTH, YOU'LL

  • Get familiar with internal tools, processes, and infrastructure.
  • Build relationships with development teams and understand their cloud dependencies.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the Sales Performance Management space and the business challenges Xactly solves.
  • Identify areas where cloud-agnostic solutions can improve scalability and efficiency.

WITHIN THREE MONTHS, YOU'LL

  • Have a strong grasp of the business and start contributing improvements to cloud-agnostic DevOps strategies.
  • Develop a deep understanding of multi-cloud technologies and best practices.
  • Provide insights and suggestions for optimizing DevOps workflows across different cloud providers.

WITHIN SIX MONTHS, YOU'LL

  • Work independently and actively increase the velocity of development teams by enhancing automation and reducing deployment bottlenecks.
  • Drive multi-cloud and hybrid cloud adoption strategies.
  • Help drive automation, monitoring, and reliability improvements across multi-cloud and on-prem environments.

WITHIN TWELVE MONTHS, YOU'LL

  • Be recognized as a trusted DevOps expert and business advisor with deep expertise in cloud-agnostic strategies.
  • Make a significant positive impact across the company by improving scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency of cloud infrastructure.
  • Identify further personal education and growth opportunities to enhance expertise in DevOps, multi-cloud management, and automation.
