Job Type: Safety Engineer – Construction Industry

Location: Egmore / Project Sites (CMRL/HECS)

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to oversee and enforce safety practices across our construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, ensuring that all activities on site comply with statutory regulations and company policies. This role is critical in maintaining a safe workplace and preventing accidents, incidents, and occupational hazards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement site-specific safety plans, policies, and procedures in line with statutory and company requirements.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Monitor construction activities to prevent accidents and unsafe practices.
  • Organize toolbox talks, safety inductions, and awareness programs for workers and staff.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided, maintained, and properly used by all site personnel.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, logs, and documentation for audits and client reviews.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and contractors to enforce safety measures and resolve non-compliance issues.
  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard analysis, and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Stay updated on relevant OSHA, ISO 45001, and local statutory safety regulations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Industrial) with specialization or certification in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE).
  • 3–6 years of experience as a Safety Engineer/Safety Officer in the construction industry.
  • Certification in NEBOSH, IOSH, or OSHA (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations, risk assessment, and hazard management.
  • Familiarity with incident reporting, auditing procedures, and HSE documentation.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and the ability to enforce safety protocols effectively.
  • Excellent communication and training skills to engage with workers and site teams.
  • Strong observation and analytical skills to identify risks and recommend preventive measures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and safety management software (preferred).
