Automotive Diagnostic Technician Job Description In the era of modern vehicles, the demand for automotive diagnostic technicians has never been greater. As automotive technology continues to evolve, the need for skilled technicians who can diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair our complex vehicle systems increases. Automotive Diagnostic Technician Duties and Responsibilities Automotive Diagnostic Technicians use their expert knowledge of vehicle systems and advanced diagnostic tools to identify and troubleshoot issues with vehicles. They work to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance. Their duties and responsibilities include: Performing thorough diagnostics on vehicles to identify mechanical and electrical issues Using specialized diagnostic equipment and software to interpret vehicle data and fault codes Reading and interpreting technical manuals for vehicle repair and maintenance Maintaining detailed records of each diagnostic test, including the issue identified and the recommended repairs Communicating diagnostic findings to service advisors and customers, explaining technical information in clear, understandable terms Performing routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections Working closely with other automotive repair technicians to discuss and troubleshoot complex vehicle issues Keeping up-to-date with advancements in automotive diagnostic technology and techniques Ensuring a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with health and safety standards
