Reporting to: Senior Director, Product Development

About the Role: We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic, and experienced Client Device Engineer with a passion for emerging technology, embedded systems, custom device integration, and advanced troubleshooting. As part of our Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in the development, integration, and optimization of client-side solutions for a diverse technology stack, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver best-in-class experiences on smart, mobile, and connected devices. This is a highly technical role requiring strong hands-on experience with SmartTV platforms, mobile applications, hardware integration, and advanced troubleshooting skills across complex software and hardware environments.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and maintain applications targeted for client-facing devices, particularly SmartTV platforms (e.g., WebOS, Tizen) and mobile platforms (iOS, Android).
- Build and support mobile applications on both iOS and Android platforms with a focus on performance and cross-platform consistency.
- Analyze and interpret API documentation to implement compatible and scalable client solutions for a wide variety of use cases.
- Conduct deep, systematic troubleshooting across multifaceted technology stacks including front-end, networking, video delivery, hardware interfaces, and backend integrations.
- Contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle from development and testing to deployment and performance monitoring.
- Collaborate with Product, QA, and Development teams to improve features, performance, and maintainability.
- Develop and maintain front-end code using frameworks such as VueJS and AngularJS.
- Design and implement solutions integrating custom hardware including specialty lighting, custom cable development, and PoE devices.
- Conduct hardware evaluations and testing to ensure device compatibility, performance, and reliability under varying conditions.
- Develop and support hardware test automation frameworks and integrate custom serial or protocol-based devices.
- Work with DevOps and Cloud Engineers to develop serverless solutions using AWS technologies such as Lambda and CloudFront.
- Provide technical recommendations and contribute to product and architectural decisions.
- Jump start nascent automated testing efforts around Inpatient hardware functionality, including developing comprehensive automated testing strategy, selecting automation tools and platforms, and extending existing testing procedures to include the development of automated tests.
- Define, implement and monitor Hardware QA practices within the Inpatient team to ensure consistency and quality in each release
- Build a comprehensive testing framework to account for LG Firmware releases before promoting to production
- Manage a hardware testing and stresslab for SmartTVs and other devices, and write automated test cases that push these devices to their limits, ensuring we are catching issues before they ever appear to clients
- Ability to diagnose and provide front line support for any hardware issues on supported platforms - Ability to work directly with partner vendors (LG, Samsung, Apple, HatchMed, PDI, etc.)
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with a strong emphasis on client, embedded, or device-facing applications.
- Critical SmartTV Development Experience (WebOS, Tizen).
- Hands-on mobile application development experience across iOS and Android platforms.
- Proficient with front-end JavaScript frameworks including VueJS and AngularJS.
- Solid working knowledge of Python, HTML5, and modern web architectures.
- Experience with video playback technologies (digital and analog) and multicast video delivery.
- Expertise with messaging frameworks, including WebSockets, Autobahn, and RabbitMQ.
- Experience with AWS serverless technology stacks, including Lambda and CloudFront.
- Advanced network analysis and troubleshooting skills using tools like Wireshark and packet-level debugging.
- Experience designing and implementing hardware integration solutions including PoE solutions, custom cables, and lighting systems.
- Proficient in hardware evaluation, testing techniques, and development of testing automation frameworks. - Experience with serial and custom communication protocols (RS232, CEC, etc.).
