Purpose of the role:

We are seeking a talented and motivated Litigation Professional to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in pre-litigation advisory, alternate dispute resolution (arbitration, ODR, Conciliation), white collar and criminal litigations, criminal laws, arbitration laws, securities law (preferable), with a strong focus on providing strategic legal advice to support the company's business objectives.

As a Mid-Level Litigation Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting various legal functions, and in particular issues related to matters involving regulatory, investigative and enforcement agencies. You will also manage and oversee relevant various regulatory compliances, audit and disclosure requirements, billing and other such miscellaneous tasks associated with the function. You will represent the group before various legal forums and investigative agencies, coordinate with and brief law firms, advocates, solicitors, and senior counsels. You will directly report to the Head of Litigations at Nuvama and will play a critical role in managing all litigations, arbitrations, legal notices, regulatory and criminal investigations that Nuvama deals with.

Experience - 5 to 8 years

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal counsel on a wide range of legal matters with the primary objective of avoiding litigations, mitigating legal risks and protecting the interests of Nuvama.
  • Drafting responses to legal notices, pleadings and applications filed before Courts, arbitral tribunals, applications, consent terms etc.
  • Assist in investigation process, drafting applications for / replies to statement recording, cross examination, document discovery and inspection
  • Overseeing arbitrations and court matters and defending claims against Nuvama / pursuing legal claims on behalf of Nuvama
  • Appearing on behalf of Nuvama in ODR, exchange arbitrations, before investigative authorities.
  • Articulating legal scenarios and strategy to businesses in deciding legal action with cost / benefit analysis
  • Analysing and identifying common litigation trends and identifying common treads leading to litigation against the company
  • Collaborate with business units to ensure consistency in the legal stand taken by the Nuvama group in dealing with various legal disputes
  • Prepare, maintain and update litigation trackers.
  • Updating provisioning and contingent liability lists based on updates to litigations
  • Overseeing billing and clearing of invoices of external stakeholders such as advocates / law firms
  • Coordinate with external legal advisors, as needed, for specialized legal matters.
  • Provide training to internal teams on legal and compliance issues.
  • Draft and review internal policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
  • Staying updated with regulatory and legal updates and updating relevant stakeholders.

Qualification:

Law degree (LLB or equivalent) from a recognized university. A post-graduation or any other suitable qualification would be an advantage.
