Job Profile – Pattern cum Cutting Master

Department: Production / Sampling / Cutting

Job Purpose: To create accurate garment patterns and manage the cutting process as per design requirements, ensuring quality, fit, and timely delivery for bulk and sample production.

Key Responsibilities:

Pattern Making:

  • Develop garment patterns manually or digitally as per design sketches/tech packs.
  • Ensure correct measurements, size grading, and fitting.
  • Make adjustments and modifications based on fit trials and buyer comments.

Fabric & Marker Planning:

  • Analyze fabric consumption and prepare markers to minimize wastage.
  • Ensure maximum fabric utilization during cutting.

Cutting Supervision:

  • Supervise fabric spreading and cutting process.
  • Guide cutting staff to maintain accuracy and avoid fabric damage.
  • Ensure proper bundling and numbering of cut panels for production.

Quality Control:

  • Check accuracy of patterns and cuts before handing over to stitching.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues related to pattern, fit, or cutting.

Coordination:

  • Work closely with the Sampling, Merchandising, and Production teams.
  • Provide technical inputs during product development.
  • Maintain proper record of patterns and cutting files.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of pattern making, grading, and garment construction.
  • Expertise in manual and/or CAD pattern making.
  • Good understanding of different fabrics and their behavior.
  • Precision in cutting and attention to detail.
  • Team handling and supervision skills.
  • Problem-solving approach in technical issues.

Qualification & Experience:

Diploma/Certificate in Pattern Making, Garment Technology, or relevant field.

  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience as Pattern Master / Cutting Master in garment industry.

Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Accuracy of patterns and fits.

  • Fabric utilization & wastage control.
  • Timely delivery of patterns and cuttings.
  • Quality of cut panels and production readiness.
