Job Summary:

We are seeking a meticulous and analytical Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer to investigate and identify root causes of product failures across development, production, and field use. The ideal candidate will use a variety of diagnostic and analytical tools to perform in-depth analysis on mechanical, electrical, or electronic components, and work cross-functionally to recommend corrective actions and improvements in design, process, or materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on failed components, assemblies, and systems from R&D, production, and field returns.

  • Use analytical tools and techniques such as:

  • Microscopy (SEM, Optical)

  • X-ray / CT Scanning
  • Cross-sectioning and de-processing
  • XPS, EDS/EDX, FTIR, or SIMS

  • Electrical testing (curve tracers, multimeters, oscilloscopes)

  • Document findings in detailed Failure Analysis Reports (FARs) with root cause, evidence, and recommended corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with design, quality, manufacturing, and reliability teams to provide feedback for corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Work on Design of Experiments (DOE), reliability testing, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to proactively prevent failures.
  • Track failure trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain FA lab equipment, tools, and safety protocols.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of material properties, failure mechanisms, and degradation modes (e.g., fatigue, corrosion, delamination, ESD, thermal stress).
  • Proficient with microscopy, spectroscopy, and other failure analysis techniques.
  • Ability to read schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams, and other root cause tools.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
