The role involves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, system optimization, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and plant productivity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform diagnostic checks, troubleshooting, and repair of hydraulic systems used in shredders, pre-shredders, conveyors, feeders, and other plant equipment.
- Identify root causes of hydraulic failures (pressure loss, leakage, overheating, contamination, valve malfunction, pump failures).
- Conduct regular inspection of hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, accumulators, filters, and fittings.
- Respond to breakdowns with quick fault identification and restoration.
2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all hydraulic systems.
- Monitor hydraulic oil quality, pressure settings, temperature, flow characteristics, and contamination levels.
- Maintain logs for oil changes, filter replacements, and system overhauls.
- Ensure health of cooling units, lubrication systems, and pressure relief systems.
3. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to safety standards related to hydraulic equipment operation and maintenance.
- Conduct risk assessments of hydraulic systems and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with ISO, OSHA, and plant-specific safety guidelines.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Interpret hydraulic drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Maintain documentation of hydraulic system parameters, maintenance records, and service logs.
- Coordinate with vendors/contractors for hydraulic parts, system upgrades, or service visits.
5. Team Coordination
- Train technicians on hydraulic maintenance best practices.
- Work closely with the electrical, mechanical, and operations teams for coordinated execution of maintenance activities.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of industrial hydraulic systems (high-pressure/large capacity).
- Experience with hydraulic pumps, proportional valves, servo valves, accumulators, and filtration systems.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic circuits, P&ID, and equipment manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of PLC-controlled hydraulic systems (preferred).
- Knowledge of safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in hydraulic maintenance, preferably in a ferrous shredder plant, heavy machinery, steel, recycling, mining, or similar industrial environment.
