Job Purpose
To ensure thorough quality surveillance and compliance during the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and delivery of steam turbine and its auxiliary systems by the EPC contractor/OEM vendors, in line with Owners technical specifications and international quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
A. Inspection and Quality Surveillance
Witness stage inspections and FAT of the following major components:
HP, IP, LP turbine casings and rotors
- Bearings, couplings, blades, diaphragms, shafts
- Lube oil system, control oil system, jacking oil system
Turning gear, gland sealing system, ejectors and other auxiliaries
Verify conformance to approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs)
- Perform visual inspection, dimensional checks, NDT (RT, UT, MT, PT) review, hydrostatic tests, balance tests, alignment and box-up checks.
B. Quality Documentation and Control
Review and verify:
Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs)
- Welder qualifications, heat treatment records, MTCs
Final inspection reports, test certificates, and Quality Dossiers (MDR)
Ensure traceability of materials, consumables, and compliance with contract quality requirements.
C. Issue Management and Coordination
- Identify, document, and follow up on non-conformances (NCRs), deviations, and quality observations.
- Ensure timely resolution through Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA).
- Interface with TPI agencies and EPC QA/QC team for joint inspections, hold point releases, and documentation.
- Ensure that all quality issues are promptly reported and communicated to the Lead QA/QC Engineer and Engineering team.
D. Support to Project Engineering and Procurement
- Provide QA inputs during vendor evaluation, pre-inspection meetings, and design reviews.
- Monitor progress and quality status aligned with project schedule and delivery milestones.
- Verify storage, preservation, and packing procedures before dispatch.
Required Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
- 712 years of QA/QC experience in steam turbine manufacturing/inspection and auxiliary systems
- Knowledge of ASME (Sec I, V, VIII, IX), ISO 9001, and other relevant QA standards
- Experience with OEMs such as BHEL, Siemens, GE, Toshiba, Doosan or similar preferred
- NDT Level II certification (PT, MT, UT) preferred
Preferred Skills & Tools
- Familiar with rotor balancing, hydro testing, vibration and alignment standards
- Proficient in QA documentation review and report generation
- Skilled in MS Office, inspection checklists, and digital QA systems
- Understanding of turbine control and lube oil systems' functionality and quality parameters
