The ICU Consultant will be responsible for providing expert medical care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. The role involves clinical decision-making, supervision of junior doctors and nursing staff, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring adherence to the highest standards of patient care, safety, and ethical practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care
- Provide round-the-clock care to critically ill patients admitted to the ICU.
- Perform patient assessments, develop treatment plans, and manage acute emergencies.
- Conduct regular ICU rounds and ensure timely interventions.
- Medical Procedures
- Perform and supervise critical care procedures (intubation, central line insertion, ventilator management, etc.).
- Ensure appropriate use of life-support systems, monitoring devices, and ICU equipment.
- Team Leadership & Training
- Guide, mentor, and supervise junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff.
- Facilitate continuous medical education and training sessions within the ICU.
- Patient & Family Communication
- Communicate effectively with patient families regarding treatment plans, prognosis, and critical updates.
- Provide compassionate support and counseling in sensitive situations.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, ICU protocols, and infection control guidelines.
- Contribute to NABH/JCI accreditation and quality assurance initiatives.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with consultants from other specialties (cardiology, neurology, nephrology, surgery, etc.) for multidisciplinary care.
- Coordinate with allied healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient management.
