Role description:
AIBI is looking for Traffic Engineer who will be responsible for the end-to-end smooth operation of ITACA based Adaptive Traffic signal system installed under Mumbai ATC Project. The role includes visiting site and control rooms, along with 2 no. Site supervisors as required, for review of operation of ITACA system at Traffic Police Headquarters (TPHQ)
Control Room, BMC Fault Management System (FMS) Control Room & at 253 junctions spread across Mumbai and always ensure smooth operation of ATC signals. Normal working hours will be 10am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday, however in case of site requirements, may be required to visit site before 10am or after 6pm.
Role accountabilities:
- Configure Optimized offsets (In consultation with Client Engineer, Traffic Police & O&M Site Team)
- Update and improve Plan Library including data from site and Adaptive operation of system
- Configure Expert Traffic Rules Editor as per requirement
- Link Calibration/ Validation
- Configure/Edit Green wave if required (In consultation with Traffic Police)
- Configure &/or modify ITACA systems components subarea/count site/link/ junction/ route
Review of ITACA System:
The brief scope of services that shall be provided are as below:
- System Performance of ITACA
- Fault analysis
- System availability review
- Detector performance review
- Corridor management issues
- Table synchronisation review
- Sub area setup review
- Optimisation of standalone tables
- Operational Issues
- Identification of issues in any particular junction (either manual handling or parking or phasing and timing, etc.)
- Review of response time of the Maintenance Contractors
- Issues in the maintenance of the system
- Actions to be taken to improve the system
- System Performance of ITACA
- Fault analysis – Area wise fault analysis (Island City, Western Suburb, Eastern Suburb) for all junctions shall be done on the basis of daily generated faults in FMS system & manually.
- System availability review – The review of Server, MTNL & Power Supply down time shall be done.
- Detector performance review – The performance review of Vehicle Detection camera shall be done on the basis of daily generated faults in FMS system.
- Corridor management issues
- Synchronisation review – The review of synchronization (flow v/s cycle) of each sub area shall be taken based on historical data. Before review, junction plan & offset of all the junctions corresponding to that sub area shall be verified physically on site.
- Sub area setup review -The review on sub area set up shall be verified physically on site.
- Optimisation of standalone tables – The junction parameters shall be physically verified at site location and same shall be conformed in ITACA system as mentioned below:
I. Status of junction in Optimus
II. Phase configuration in ITACA – Phases shall be verified as per site condition
III. Stage Diagram – Stage diagram shall be verified as per site condition. The suggestion shall be addressed for the same to improve better optimization of current signal operation.
IV. Video Detector Loops – Loop configuration shall be verified physically on site.
V. Count site – Count site configuration shall be carried out and the detailed report in this regard shall be submitted along with audit report.
VI. Link – The configuration of "In link" & "Out link" shall be verified physically on site. The calibration of approaches for the ITACA system is the basic task, apart from the configuration of controllers and the defining the logical sub areas, for the start-up of the adaptive control mode in real time.
The link calibration shall be carried out and the parameters like Discharge measure, Max Queue, Access time & congestion factor shall be reviewed physically on site. During the calibration period, the parameters that the traffic engineer needs to individualize each approach, are adjusted
Theses parameters are:
- Journey Time
- Maximum Queue
- Saturation flow
- Operational Issues
- Identification of issues in any particular junction (either manual handling or parking etc.
- Scheduler of the System shall be verified.
- Review of response time of the Maintenance Contractors
- Issues of maintenance of the system – The monthly review shall be taken with maintenance agency in presence of BMC Engineer.
- Suggestions to be taken to improve the system
Note: The reports of link calibration, Discharge measure, Max. Queue, Access time & congestion factor shall be submitted in each quarter. The Audit & Calibration activities shall be carried out (excluding monsoon period) as per following schedule:
Report Parameters Period Review
- Quarterly report
- System Performance Review -- For all ATC signal junction
- Operational Review- For all ATC signal junction
Corridor Management (40 junctions approx.)
- First 15 days of quarter - Review of corridor Before calibration
- 2 months Link calibration
- Last 15 days of quarter - Review of corridor after calibration
Note: The corridor shall be selected for the review in consultation with Client Engineer.
In addition to the above, Traffic Engineer is also required to attend to Traffic junction & signal related complaints received from Traffic Police, BMC Engineers and other stakeholders by visiting the site, evaluating options and providing best possible option to resolve the traffic junction and Traffic signal related issues. After each and every site visit a report to be submitted to Client mentioning the issue, actions taken, status of issue and how the issue was resolved for review and record purpose.
Attend to Traffic junction and Traffic Signal related meetings with Client, Traffic Police, O&M Teams and provide necessary inputs and guidance.
Experience:
2 Years experience in Transportation System or Fully Adaptive Traffic Signal Control System (either ITACA/SCOOT or SCATS) in any of the Urban areas.
Skills:
Must know AutoCAD, MS Office and knowledge of PTV Vissim/Q-GIS/SIDRA Intersections is desirable

: M.E./M.Tech (Civil) with Specialization in Transportation
