Key Responsibilities

• Shape the SaaS platform that defines how on-call works for thousands of companies globally
• Design distributed systems that power incident response worldwide, handling millions of alerts and setting the industry standard for modern incident management platforms
• Establish and evangelise engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural patterns across multiple teams, providing clear context and rationale for technical decisions
• Build thought leadership within the organisation by translating ambiguous product requirements into clear technical specifications and actionable engineering roadmaps
• Mentor senior engineers and drive code quality across our SaaS platform, where reliability isn't optional - when our customers' systems are down, ours better be rock solid

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years building backend systems, with extensive Golang experience and proficiency in other typed languages (Java, Kotlin, Rust)
• Proven expertise in Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles and implementation in large-scale distributed systems
• Strong background in architectural patterns (CQRS, Event Sourcing, Saga, Circuit Breaker, etc.) and their practical application
• Real expertise in distributed systems - you've built systems that scale horizontally, handle failures gracefully, and maintain consistency across multiple services
• Experience working in agile environments with rapid iteration cycles and the ability to make critical technical decisions with limited information
• Deep incident management experience - you understand the pain of being woken up at 3 am and have strong opinions about alerting, escalations, SRE best practices, and what makes a good runbook
• Extensive experience designing and building high-quality APIs with a focus on performance, reliability, and developer experience
• Deep expertise in event-driven systems and asynchronous processing patterns, with hands-on experience in message queues, event streaming, and eventual consistency models
• Hands-on experience building cloud-native systems at scale using microservices, event-driven architecture, and major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Proven track record of establishing and driving adoption of engineering standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines across multiple teams
• Demonstrated ability to distil complex, ambiguous product requirements into clear technical specifications and executable engineering plans
• Strong leadership experience with cross-functional teams and a proven track record of shipping products on time, even when requirements evolve
• Proven experience mentoring and developing senior engineers, with demonstrated ability to elevate technical skills and architectural thinking across teams
• Track record of building thought leadership within engineering organisations through technical guidance, decision-making frameworks, and strategic technical direction
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to stakeholders at all levels
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and understanding how code works in production environments
• Security-first mindset - you write secure code because you know what happens when you don't

Good to Have Skills

• Frontend skills with modern frameworks (React) and mobile experience (iOS/Android/Flutter)
• 5+ years of deep Go experience in distributed systems (you dream in goroutines and channels)
• Advanced experience with message queues/streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar) for high-throughput event processing
• Knowledge of bounded contexts, aggregate design, and strategic design patterns
• Experience refactoring monolithic systems into well-designed microservices using DDD principles
• Strong database expertise across SQL and NoSQL technologies in distributed environments
• Hands-on experience with observability Systems (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) for building comprehensive system visibility.
• Experience with chaos engineering principles and tools
• Contributions to open-source projects
