Finishing Stenter Supervisor (Dyeing & printing Mills)

A Finishing Stenter Supervisor in a dyeing and printing mill is responsible for overseeing the fabric finishing process, with a focus on operating and managing the stenter machine. The role requires a strong understanding of textile finishing techniques, quality control, production scheduling, and team management. Core responsibilitiesProduction management

  • Supervise stenter operations: Oversee the team of stenter machine operators to ensure production goals are met.
  • Schedule production: Plan and coordinate finishing tasks to align with the dyeing and printing schedules.
  • Monitor parameters: Ensure all stenter machine settings, including temperature, speed, and width, are correctly calibrated to meet fabric specifications.
  • Handle machine issues: Troubleshoot and resolve any technical problems with the stenter machine to minimize downtime.
  • Manage chemical stock: Track and maintain the inventory of dyes and finishing chemicals used in the process.

Quality control

  • Inspect fabric: Verify that fabric meets quality standards for color consistency, width uniformity, and finish.
  • Conduct routine checks: Perform regular checks on the stenter machine to ensure it is functioning correctly and producing quality output.
  • Address fabric defects: Identify and respond to fabric defects such as uneven stretching, creasing, or spotting.
  • Utilize lab coordination: Work with the lab and production teams to adjust formulas for color matching and achieving desired fabric finishes.

Team leadership and safety

  • Train staff: Provide guidance and training to stenter operators and other finishing staff.
  • Manage personnel: Enforce work rules and handle disciplinary actions to maintain a productive and safe work environment.
  • Enforce safety protocols: Implement and reinforce safety procedures for operating high-temperature and high-speed machinery.
  • Maintain cleanliness: Ensure the stenter machine and surrounding work area are kept clean and organized.

Documentation and reporting

  • Generate production reports: Prepare and present daily production reports to management, outlining output, efficiency, and any issues.
  • Maintain shift records: Oversee the accurate recording of machine settings, material specifications, and production runs.
  • Ensure seamless handovers: Coordinate with other supervisors to guarantee a smooth transition between shifts.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience in fabric finishing, with a strong background in operating stenter machines.
  • Technical knowledge: A thorough understanding of stenter machine operations, fabric properties, and various finishing chemicals.
  • Leadership skills: Excellent team management and training abilities.
  • Detail-oriented: Strong attention to detail to ensure quality control and adherence to specifications.
  • Problem-solving abilities: The capacity to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues efficiently.
  • Communication skills: Good verbal and written communication for reporting and team coordination.
  • Education: A diploma or degree in Textile Technology or a related field is often preferred but not always required.
