Lead - Satellite Design & Development

Role Summary:

The Lead - Satellite Design & Development is a dynamic leader responsible for guiding a multi-disciplinary team through the complete lifecycle of complex projects undertaken for space systems. This role ensures the successful delivery of projects by meticulously managing timelines, budgets, and resource allocation while spearheading the application of core systems engineering principles. The manager will coordinate the integration of various engineering disciplines—from system requirements and interface management to design validation—ensuring seamless collaboration internally and effective communication with external stakeholders. This role is pivotal in driving innovation and continuously improving design and development processes in line with strategic organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team, including specialists in systems, mechanical, aerospace, electronics, software, and reliability engineering.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, ensuring that all team members work cohesively towards project objectives.
• Project Management
  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, specifications, and resource plans.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor project plans using robust project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall etc.)
  • Conduct periodic progress reviews and adjust resource allocation as necessary to mitigate risks and overcome challenges
• Systems Engineering & Integration
  • Implement key systems engineering processes such as requirements analysis, interface management, risk assessment, and verification & validation.
  • Ensure that critical systems engineering documentation is produced, maintained, and adhered to across all project phases
  • Drive design trade-offs and decision-making processes to balance performance, cost, and reliability.
• Quality Assurance & Risk Management
  • Ensure all projects exceed customer expectations through rigorous adherence to quality standards.
  • Establish robust risk assessment and mitigation protocols to address challenges proactively throughout project lifecycles.
• Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams including R&D, production, quality assurance, finance, and executive management.
  • Engage with external stakeholders such as clients, industry regulators, and suppliers to ensure clarity, compliance, and alignment with market needs.
  • Represent the team in technical forums and strategic meetings to communicate project progress and innovation initiatives.
• Innovation & Continuous Improvement.
  • Champion innovative solutions and emerging technologies that enhance system performance and competitive advantage.
  • Lead initiatives to refine development processes, ensuring continuous improvement in project execution and quality outcomes.

Preference

• Demonstrated experience as lead in the design and development of complete Satellite or Satellite Bus, including mission planning, technology evaluation, system architecture & engineering, component selection, assembly, integration, testing, flight qualification, launch and mission control.
• Familiarity with satellite sub-systems, technology solutions and solutions providers.
• Intimate knowledge of the global best practices and standards for satellites.
• Experience in handling of Strategic Planning, Project Management, Budgeting, and Resource Management.
