Role Overview:

The Dean/Asso Dean (Research & Impact) will be responsible for spearheading the University's research agenda with a strong emphasis on applied, impactful, and socially relevant research. The role requires driving innovation, fostering industry and community partnerships, and ensuring that academic research contributes meaningfully to societal growth, sustainable development, and MSU's vision of skill-integrated higher education. The Dean/Asso Dean will lead research governance, funding mobilization, policy formulation, and research capacity building across the University.

Key Responsibilities:

Research Strategy & Leadership

• Implement the University's research vision, strategy, and policies
• Promote interdisciplinary and translational research with measurable outcomes and impact on an regional, national to global context.
• Establish research clusters, centers of excellence, and innovation hubs.

Impact-Driven Research & Innovation

• Ensure academic research is oriented toward addressing real-world challenges, industry-academic gaps, policy issues, and community development, improving lives of the mass.
• Encourage projects that align with SDGs, national priorities, and local socio-economic development.
• Promote knowledge transfer, commercialization, and patents where applicable.

Capacity Building & Mentorship

• Build research capabilities among faculty and students through training, mentorship, and collaborations.
• Support early-career researchers and guide doctoral/postdoctoral programs.
• Facilitate workshops, FDPs, and seminars on research methodologies and impact assessment.

Collaboration & Partnerships

• Foster strong linkages with industry, government agencies, NGOs, and international institutions.
• Facilitate sponsored research, consultancy, and funded projects.
• Strengthen university-industry-community partnerships for research translation.

Research Governance & Compliance

• Oversee ethical standards, integrity, and compliance in all research activities.
• Monitor research quality through audits, peer reviews, and impact assessments.
• Ensure timely reporting and documentation of research outcomes for rankings, accreditation, and statutory requirements.

Funding & Resource Mobilization

• Identify and secure research grants from national/international funding agencies.
• Manage internal research funds and provide strategic support for proposal writing and submissions.

Impact Measurement & Communication

• Develop frameworks for measuring research outcomes, citations, and social impact.
• Publish annual research & impact reports highlighting achievements and contributions.
• Enhance MSU's visibility in research rankings, journals, and policy spaces.

Qualifications & Skills Required:

• Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with a strong research profile (research experience towards making an impact is preferred).
• 15+ years of academic/research experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership/administrative role.
• Proven record of impactful research (with clear outcomes).
• Experience in securing and managing funded research projects (national/international).
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborations across academia, industry, and government.
