An HVAC Project Engineer manages the design, installation, and commissioning of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for buildings and other projects, ensuring they meet project specifications, budget, and timelines while complying with regulations. Responsibilities include project planning, system design and selection, vendor and contractor coordination, site supervision, budget management, and technical support to ensure project success and system efficiency.

Role & responsibilities

Project Management: Oversee all stages of HVAC projects, from initial conception to final completion, including developing project plans, timelines, and budgets.

  • System Design: Design HVAC systems, perform load calculations, and select appropriate equipment such as air handling units, chillers, and boilers.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with clients, architects, design teams, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
  • Installation Oversight: Supervise the installation of HVAC components, piping, and ductwork, conducting site visits to inspect quality and resolve issues.
  • Commissioning and Testing: Manage system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Compliance: Ensure all systems comply with relevant industry standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, civil, or a related field) is typically required.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, design principles, mechanical and electrical engineering concepts, and CAD software.
  • Project Management Skills: Proficiency in managing timelines, budgets, resources, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with various team members and clients.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and find effective solutions.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with CAD software and other engineering tools for creating technical drawings.
