Senior Engineer - Design COE EV

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

In the role of Senior Engineer - Design COE EV, you will play a pivotal role in advancing electric vehicle powertrain technologies. Your responsibilities will encompass gaining in-depth knowledge of EV powertrain components such as DC-DC converters, onboard chargers, battery packs, and electric motors, enabling you to critically analyse and improve these systems. You will review Battery Management System (BMS) circuit designs and CAN communication matrices to support the development of sophisticated diagnostic systems aimed at enhancing vehicle reliability and safety.

You will lead cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration amongst diverse experts to ensure the timely delivery of BMS features that meet stringent quality standards and cost objectives. Engagement with suppliers will be key during component development and validation phases, requiring strong partnership and communication skills. You will validate BMS and Charge System Controller (CSC) components at various levels—from individual components to complete vehicle assemblies—by devising and executing comprehensive test specifications and validation plans.

Analysing logs from vehicle and battery pack levels will be part of your routine to identify and troubleshoot system-level issues promptly. Operating specialized test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, data loggers, and battery cyclers will be vital in conducting structured validation and development verification planning (DVP) testing. Additionally, you will participate actively in Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) reviews, identifying potential risks and contributing to risk mitigation strategies. Your expertise will be instrumental in integrating energy storage and electrification architectures across electric, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid, and strong hybrid electric vehicles.

Experience

We seek candidates with a strong educational foundation and practical experience in electrical and electronic engineering disciplines related to automotive engineering. The ideal professional will possess 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience at a Bachelor's level (BE/B Tech) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication, or Automobile Engineering. Alternately, candidates with 1 to 2 years' experience who hold a Master's degree (ME/M Tech) in the aforementioned disciplines are equally encouraged to apply.

Experience with electric vehicle powertrain components, Battery Management Systems, embedded systems calibration, and in-vehicle communication protocols such as CAN and LIN is essential. The candidate should also have a track record of working within multi-disciplinary teams, managing supplier collaborations, and executing detailed system validation and diagnostics tests. Familiarity with VECTOR diagnostic tools and scripting for automation will be advantageous. Previous exposure to development verification planning and DFMEA processes within automotive contexts will greatly support success in this role.

Industry Preferred

The preferred industries for sourcing talent for this position include the automotive sector with a focus on electric and hybrid vehicle powertrain development. Candidates with experience in the design and development of electric drivetrain components at established automotive OEMs, Tier-1 automotive suppliers specialising in EV components, or engineering consultancy firms supporting automotive electrification projects are ideal.

Relevant industries also extend to companies working extensively in embedded systems and embedded software development for automotive applications, energy storage solutions, and electric mobility technology providers. Organisations involved in advanced battery technology, power electronics, and vehicle electrification systems will likely harbour candidates with the required competencies.

Qualifications

The educational qualifications for the Senior Engineer - Design COE EV position necessitate a minimum of a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication, or Automobile Engineering. Candidates holding a Master of Engineering (ME) or Master of Technology (M Tech) degree in these relevant fields will find this role particularly aligned with their advanced skill set.

Applicants should demonstrate a solid grounding in core electrical engineering principles, specialising in systems relevant to EV powertrains and embedded systems. Additional certifications in automotive system design, embedded software development, or project management would be advantageous.

General Requirements

General requirements for this role emphasize collaboration skills with Tier-1 ECU suppliers, ensuring proper understanding and support for calibration software and embedded system integration. Candidates must exhibit a comprehensive understanding of electric vehicle systems including, but not limited to, DC-DC converters, onboard chargers, high voltage batteries, and electric motors.

Proficiency in dealing with vehicle electrical and electronic aggregates such as Body Control Modules, Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS)/Airbag systems, and infotainment/Human-Machine Interface units is essential. The role requires in-depth analysis and validation expertise in in-vehicle networking using CAN and LIN protocols, supported by experience with VECTOR diagnostic tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, and VSignalyzer.

Familiarity with scripting languages for test automation, including CAPL and CASL, is preferred, as it will enhance your ability to develop and maintain automated testing workflows. The successful candidate will also provide critical support in system-level debugging, fault tracing, and log analysis during vehicle testing and validation phases, ensuring robustness and reliability of EV powertrain systems.
