Performing land and site surveys to collect data, create maps, and ensure projects meet design and regulatory requirements
- Conducting surveys: Perform topographic and boundary surveys using specialized equipment to collect precise measurements of land, property lines, and construction sites.
- Data analysis and mapping: Analyze survey data and use software such as CAD and GIS to create detailed maps, plans, and reports.
- Project support: Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction managers to provide technical advice, support planning and design, and ensure site conditions align with project plans.
- Equipment maintenance: Ensure all surveying instruments and equipment are properly calibrated and maintained to guarantee accuracy.
- Compliance and documentation: Ensure all work complies with surveying standards, regulations, and safety protocols, and maintain accurate records of survey findings.
- Stakeholder communication: Communicate survey requirements, findings, and concerns with clients and project stakeholders.
Required qualifications and skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field is often required.
- Licensing: A Professional Surveyor (PS) license may be required, along with passing relevant exams like the NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) and Principles and Practice of Surveying (PS) exams.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in using modern surveying equipment (GPS, total stations) and software (AutoCAD, GIS).
- Soft skills: Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with good communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Experience: Previous experience as a surveyor or in a related role is typically necessary, with experience levels varying based on the seniority of the position
