Gateway DevOps Engineer

What you can expect

As part of this team, you will be working in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. Collaborating closely with Developers, Infrastructure Engineers, and Product teams to build and maintain resilient systems. The team focuses on automation, continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), observability, and cloud-native operations to support Zoom's VOIP Services.

This team are responsible for deploying and managing services across multi-cloud and on-premises environments, The team handles multiple gateway services like CRC and audio conf required for Zoom Meeting.

About the Team

Engineering operations are the driving force behind the seamless functionality and continuous availability that define the platform's unparalleled user experience. You will be responsible for building/deploying the VOIP services, monitoring infrastructure for these services, developing new automation to reduce manual effort, and being the on-call owner for assigned services.

Responsibilities

• VoIP System Management:
  
• Work extensively with VoIP technologies and protocols including SIP, RTP, and WebRTC. Deploy and manage these services on Kubernetes (k8s) clusters.
• Large-Scale Project Leadership:
  
  Lead large-scale, high-impact technical projects, ensuring successful delivery and operational excellence.
• Cloud-Native Infrastructure:
  
  Design, deploy, and maintain scalable infrastructure primarily on AWS using cloud-native tools and practices.
• Kubernetes & Containerization:
  
  Manage production deployments of Kubernetes-based and Dockerized workloads for distributed, large-scale systems. Proactively monitor these systems for reliability and performance.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
  
  Implement and manage infrastructure using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code to ensure automation and repeatability.
• Automation Development:
  
  Create and maintain large-scale automation frameworks primarily using Ansible, reducing manual toil and improving operational efficiency.
• Scripting & Coding:
  
  Write and maintain scripts and code primarily in Python, Bash, or Go, supporting automation, deployment, and monitoring tasks.
• Mentorship & Best Practices:
  
  Mentor and guide other engineers in the team to follow best automation practices with a focus on reducing toil and driving automation-led innovation.

What we're looking for

• Education:
  
  Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.

• Experience:

• 6+ years of hands-on experience deploying production services using Kubernetes.

• Minimum 6+ years as a Cloud DevOps or VoIP DevOps engineer in an individual contributor role.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring teams toward automation excellence.

• Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure design, deployment, and maintenance.

• Deep proficiency in Kubernetes and Dockerized workload deployment in large-scale distributed production environments.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools, particularly Terraform.
• Expertise in large-scale Ansible automation development.
• Proficient in programming/scripting languages: Python, Bash, or Go.
