Job Summary :

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cognos Developer to join our Business Intelligence and Data Analytics team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing, optimizing, and maintaining high-performance dashboards, data models, and reporting solutions using IBM Cognos Analytics.

This role requires a strong understanding of data visualization principles, relational database concepts, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into effective BI solutions that drive informed decision-making across the organization.

The Cognos Developer will play a key role in designing scalable reporting frameworks, optimizing stored procedures, and integrating multiple data sources to ensure that stakeholders have access to accurate, timely, and actionable information.

The candidate should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, data engineers, and senior leadership, to support enterprise-wide analytics initiatives.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and implement interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using IBM Cognos Analytics (version 11.x and above).

- Build and maintain Framework Manager models, data packages, and metadata layers that ensure consistency and accuracy across reports.

- Write, test, and optimize SQL queries, views, and stored procedures to support both ad-hoc and scheduled reporting requirements.

- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather, document, and validate reporting and analytics requirements, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and integrity by performing regular quality checks and implementing validation processes.

- Integrate Cognos with various data sources, including SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, and other enterprise systems.

- Manage and implement security protocols, data-level permissions, and role-based access controls within Cognos to maintain confidentiality and compliance.

- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and performance tuning for Cognos reports and dashboards.

- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including data flow diagrams, report catalogs, and deployment procedures.

- Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment activities, ensuring adherence to best practices and company standards.

- Work closely with data engineers to enhance the efficiency and scalability of data pipelines feeding into Cognos.

- Conduct user training and knowledge transfer sessions to help non-technical users understand and effectively use BI tools.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.

- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in IBM Cognos BI development.

- Strong experience in dashboard design, report creation, and data visualization using Cognos Analytics.

- Solid understanding of SQL programming, including writing, debugging, and optimizing stored procedures.

- Experience working with relational databases, data modeling, and ETL processes.

- Proficient in Report Studio, Framework Manager, Query Studio, and Workspace Advanced.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience with data warehousing, ETL tools, and data integration technologies.

- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and sprint-based delivery models.

- Exposure to other BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or QlikView is a plus.

- Understanding of cloud-based data environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).

- Prior experience in retail domain will be considered an asset.

- Knowledge of performance tuning and Cognos administration for high-availability environments.
