Job Summary

The Oracle DB + Application Support Specialist will provide L2 support for business-critical applications and databases. This role involves resolving production issues, improving PL/SQL components, assisting with deployments, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. The position requires strong analytical skills, hands-on expertise in PL/SQL, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.

Roles and Responsibilities

L2 Application Support

  • Handle application incidents, escalations, and service requests at L2 level.
  • Troubleshoot production issues by reviewing logs, PL/SQL code, database objects, and job executions.
  • Perform impact analysis and identify root causes for recurring issues; drive permanent fixes.
  • Monitor scheduled jobs, data loads, and database performance to prevent failures.
  • Support and guide L1 teams with standard troubleshooting practices.

PL/SQL Development & Enhancements

  • Develop, update, and optimize PL/SQL procedures, functions, packages, triggers, and SQL queries.
  • Support minor enhancements, defect fixes, data corrections, and performance tuning.
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure compliance with coding and performance standards.
  • Analyze business requirements and deliver appropriate technical solutions.

Release & Change Management

  • Support deployments, configuration changes, and patch updates across various environments.
  • Work with Development, QA, and Infrastructure teams to validate releases and perform smoke testing.
  • Ensure all changes follow ITIL and organizational change control procedures.

Incident, Problem & Service Management

  • Resolve incidents within agreed SLAs and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and analysis in the knowledge base.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for critical or repeated issues.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 7-12 years of experience in L2 application support and Oracle database environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience in PL/SQL development and SQL performance tuning.
  • Good understanding of Oracle database objects, job scheduling, and data flow processes.
  • Experience in analyzing logs, debugging production issues, and performing impact assessments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, and Change Management).
  • Strong communication and coordination skills to work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in production support for large-scale or critical applications.
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux commands and shell scripting.
  • Exposure to release management tools and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of job schedulers like Autosys, Control-M, or similar.
