Power Electronics Engineer

Key Accountabilities
- Design and develop power electronics products
- Design calculation and optimization of power electronics converters
- interpreting the electrical parameters in the device data sheets
- Topology selection for different AC-DC, DC-DC and DC-AC conversion including Buck, Boost, Flyback, Forward, Half & full-bridge, DAB converter, LLC resonance converters, high power 3-Level NPC Inverters and 3-Level DC-DC converters for high-power high-density EV charging applications.
- Simulation of power electronics systems in Matlab / Plecs
- Device selection, loss-estimation, thermal design consideration (physical layout, heat-sink sizing, cooling methods & arrangements)
- Design of Magnetic components; Inductors, line filters, high and low frequency transformers for DC-DC and DC-AC power converters, coupled inductors for circulating currents and EMI/EMC applications.
- Advance the knowledge of the integration of Power Electronics Converters with associated components/subsystems e.g. electrical machines, power network, energy storage systems with the goal of optimizing overall system performance in relation to the specifics of the applications.
- Maintain a good understanding of state-of-the-art in power converter component technologies with emphasis on advance magnetic materials, Actively work with suppliers to acquire these technologies as required.
- Develop component, subsystem and system level models in order to enhance the team's ability to accelerate design, development and testing activities.
- Assisting in PCB layout design and routing of high frequency kHz power converters / inverters with improved EMI/EMC performances/compatibility
- Co-ordinate strategic collaboration with key research partners in R&D initiatives
- Lead internal and external research programs to ensure business opportunities are pursued and the Group's R&D requirements are satisfied.
- Maintain good customer and stakeholder engagement throughout the project cycle.
- Support the achievement of department objectives aligned with global objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- BE/ME/MS degree in Electrical Engineering. Candidates with significant industrial and technology commercialization experience will be preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in power electronics field
- Must have 'hands on' experience in designing of low/medium power Switch Mode Power Supplies- SMPS- AC/DC and DC/DC converters and testing procedures
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- power electronics converter topologies (DC/AC and DC/DC) and power semiconductor devices which are applicable for high voltage and high-power application.
- Gate driver design, embedded systems design (controller) and magnetic designs
- Component layouts and smart packaging of power converter system
- Thermal management of Power converters
- Hands on experience in design of PCBs including schematics and multi-layer PCBs for micro-controller and interfaces
- Hands on experience in
- Software tools: MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, PLECS, ANSYS, LTspice, Proteus, Altium, OrCAD
- Hardware Tools: Tektronix TDS2024, Tektronix DPO3034 Digital storage Oscilloscope, Tektronix MSO4034 Mixed signal Oscilloscope Tektronix AFG3022 Digital dual channel function generator 25Mhz, Fluke 87 V, Fluke 115 True RMS Multimeter, Fluke 17B+, HP 4261A LCR meter, Tektronix P5200, P5210 HV differential probes, high voltage tester (DC & pulse), Simulation tools for wireless chargers
- Experience in modelling and time domain simulation software for power converter design.
- Preferred experience with MATLAB/ Simulink/ HDL coder for model-based design
- Ability to work with components and solution suppliers to meet the system requirements is a must. The candidate should have a strong vendor and supplier database.
- Experience in the development of commercial high-power and high-voltage power electronics converters for electric drives, power supplies and power conditioners.
- Undertake test rig design for these converters and associated commissioning.
- Familiarity with different industrial standards for electrical system is an essential and knowledge/exposure of aerospace and marine standards will be advantageous
- Experience in working in multi-domain team (Electrical, Mechanical, Control and Thermal). In general, you should have broad interests across engineering disciplines and a sound understanding of interactions with other engineering disciplines.
