Job Purpose

The Senior Substation Engineer (Primary Electrical) will be responsible for undertaking the production and management of design & engineering deliverables for High Voltage T&D Projects including studies, tender designs, detailed design, design review and verifications. The Senior Engineer will also perform design management, engineering governance, quality checks and internal design reviews and provide technical leadership and mentoring to Substation design team.

Qualification and skills

• Bacholer or Master of Engineering degree in Electrical Power System from recognised institutions.
• Professional membership of National & international Institutes.
• Sound understanding of relevant National & International Engineering Standards, Codes & Practices.
• Sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation and Safety in Design requirements.
• Professional report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to understand cross-discipline engineering principles.

Experience

• 7+ Years of Design & Engineering experience in delivering Substation Primary System design to Utility substations or large scale Renewable Energy & T&D Infrastructure projects
• In depth experience of undertaking Primary system design modelling including short circuit forces calculations, EMF Study, Insulator Coridnation, Earthgrid modelling and design and Lighting system modelling and design, Protection cordination & relay settings, relay configuration and programming.
• Delivered Protection and control system design of EHV Substation (IEC 61850 standard preferred)

Software Tools Proficiency

• Simulation Software
• Electrical DIg SILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, Cyme, CDEG, PLS-CAD, ETAP
• Drafting Tools AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley Microstation
• IT Systems and Database Tools

Role Accountabilities

1. Design & Engineering

• Undertake detailed design and engineering calculation, simulation, modelling, and Primary system design reports.
• Protection & Control (Secondary System) design inclduing Protection SLD, Protection philosophy, Proetction & Control panel scheme design for line protection, Transformer Protecion, MV Switchboards, Bus bar protection etc., LV Cable sizing, cable schedule and interconnection schedule, , Panel GA Layout & Schematics, control room secondary design, Auxiliary Power supply system design, Battery and battery charger sizing and DC system design, material schedule, SCADA IO Schedule, IEC61850 GOOSE design, P&C System
• Secondary system modelling, System load flow study, short circuit and sysem stability study, Protection study & Relay setting, SCADA & Communication Design, IED programming and configuration
• Primary System design including Primary SLD, Equipment sizing, LV HV Cable sizing and cable system design, GA Layout, Plans and sections, Cable layout, conduits and trenching layout, swicthroom and control room design, Earth grid design, Indoor & outdoor ligthing system design, material schedule, Station Service Transformer sizing and LV AC design, Lightning Protection & Insulation coordination study, Short circuit forces calculation, Electromagnetic Field (EMF) study, Safety in Design
• Procurement Engineering - primary plant specifications, datasheets, Primary plant manufacturer drawing review, factory inspections,
• Compliance with Clients design standards, relevant project standards and specifications, compliance with local codes and other requirements.
• Oversee the Design drafting work including developing the design, red line markup, reviewing the drawing, and mentoring the design drafters.
• Internal and inter-discipline design review and quality checks, Coordination with inter-discipline Design teams for design input, design development and design review work.
• Safety in Design Design Risk Management, identify design risks and issues, and provide mitigation measures.
• Innovation - Ensure the application of innovation in the design of customer works projects to produce the optimum installation while still adhering to the required design standards, reliability, security and quality.

2. Study

• Feasibility study and option Analysis.
• Project Development studies.
• System Study Load Flow and Short Circuit Analysis.
• Lightning Protection & Insulation coordination study,
• Short circuit forces calculation, Electromagnetic Field (EMF) study.
• Protection Coordination & Relay setting study.
• Network Steady State and Dynamic study.
• Grid Connection Generator Performance Standard (GPS) study.

3. Design Management

• Design Budget - Develop the design budget, time and effort estimation, sequencing, scheduling, and monitoring and control of the design budget.
• Quality Management Design Input and output quality review process, Quality documentation, Quality audit.
• Design Risk Management Manage SiD, Risk Register, participate in SiD workshop, develop SID Report, Monitoring & Control.
• Design Schedule Management develop, monitor and control design schedule, design input and outputs, design deliverables, and document control.
• Communication Management Comply with the communication plan and requirements specified in the Design Management Plan.

4. Engineering Governance & Quality

• Adherence to the Design Quality Process throughout the design life cycle.
• Development of quality policy and procedure.
• Value Engineering and Innovation.
• Drive improvements to aid cost-effectiveness and enhance the quality of the engineering work for both internal and external clients.
• Review and management of key engineering documents.
