Role Overview

The
Service Reliability and Sustainability Engineer
is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and sustainability of enterprise systems and services. This role bridges the gap between operations and engineering, focusing on automation, observability, performance optimization, and environmental sustainability in IT infrastructure.

The ideal candidate combines a strong DevOps or SRE background with a passion for sustainable IT practices—driving initiatives that enhance system resilience while reducing environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities

Service Reliability

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response frameworks to improve service uptime and performance.
  • Collaborate with software and platform teams to integrate reliability best practices (SLI/SLO/SLAs).
  • Conduct post-incident reviews to identify root causes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Automate operational workflows (CI/CD, infrastructure provisioning, fault recovery).

Sustainability & Efficiency

  • Measure and optimize energy and resource consumption of IT services and infrastructure.
  • Partner with data center, cloud, and facilities teams to implement green computing initiatives.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting to track sustainability KPIs (e.g., power usage effectiveness, carbon footprint).
  • Evaluate and recommend sustainable architectures and vendors aligned with ESG goals.
  • Support sustainability audits and compliance efforts in technology operations.

Collaboration & Governance

  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and ESG teams to align reliability and sustainability strategies.
  • Contribute to policy and standards development for green IT and operational excellence.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to improve team practices in automation and sustainable design.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Systems Engineering roles.
  • Proficiency with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Hands-on experience in monitoring and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, etc.).
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:

  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks (e.g., Green IT, ISO 14001, GHG Protocol).
  • Experience in capacity planning and energy efficiency optimization.
  • Exposure to sustainability reporting tools or carbon measurement methodologies.
  • Certification in SRE, DevOps, or sustainability-related discipline.
