Software Development Manager III, Digital Acceleration

Automation of financial record keeping (FRK) is a critical scaling challenge across digital businesses today. The DA FRK organization has the charter for simplifying and speeding up the end-to-end accounting automation journey by creating a new architecture.

You will work as a technical leader within the team and will independently define the architecture for the Next Gen financial automation programs. You will also influence the technical direction of other teams, both within the Digital Acceleration org and in partner businesses. This is a great opportunity to tackle some very interesting and complex architectural problems, innovate in the space and drive product direction. You will work with a team of passionate software engineers and will get an opportunity to learn from experienced technical leaders. You'll work with state of the art technologies in the AWS, Big Data and Open Source spaces. A successful candidate will have an extensive background in building highly scalable, highly available services, strong technical skills, a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment, high creativity, and great analytical reasoning skills. We build systems that enable innovation and growth of Amazon's Digital Businesses. Our systems enable financial record keeping for Kindle eBooks, Prime Video, Amazon Appstore, Amazon Music, Digital Software & Video Games and the ever expanding list of digital businesses at Amazon. We are looking for an SDE who can help set the technical strategy across multiple teams, and help expand our vision. You will be leading and building solutions that impact all digital businesses, working with smart engineers and leaders.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead your team to build a brand new product with quality, robustness and Amazon sized scale as top priorities.

- Prioritize being a really great people manager. Building, motivating, rewarding and coaching a diverse team of Software Development Engineers is the most important part of this role. You will recruit and retain top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks.

- Contribute to architecture and design discussions for full stack software.

- Lead your team to evolve our service architecture with quality, robustness and Amazon sized scale as top priorities. You will regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.

- Set a vision for your team and create product roadmaps.

- Help your team sort out technical and product requirements and priorities. Deliver product roadmap items and cross-team projects.

- Delight your customers. Internalize our customer challenges and derive creative solutions which apply new and innovative technology.

About the team
Amazon Digital Acceleration powers ordering, subscriptions, and device management for Prime, Amazon Video, Music, Audible, Alexa, and Kindle, amongst other digital businesses. We process billions of digital purchases every year and enable our digital businesses to grow their businesses worldwide. We are on a mission to be earth's best provider of one-time and recurring digital commerce, delivering a seamless and enjoyable post-purchase customer experience.

Basic Qualifications:
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
