Optum AI is UnitedHealth Group's enterprise AI team. We are AI/ML scientists and engineers with deep expertise in AI/ML engineering for health care. We develop AI/ML solutions for the highest impact opportunities across Optum, part of the UnitedHealth Group family of businesses including UnitedHealthcare, Optum Financial, Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx. In addition to transforming the health care journey through responsible AI/ML innovation, our charter also includes developing and supporting an enterprise AI/ML development platform.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Trusted partner of the technical leadership of an organization, typically at the Director level
• Key influencer in planning strategy and bring in business and industry context to technology decisions
• Architecture should be exemplary in terms of efficiency, stability, extensibility, and the ability to evolve over time. Simplify processes and technologies
• Software is robust in the presence of failures, scalable, and cost-effective
• Coding practices are exemplary in terms of code organization, clarity, simplicity, error handling, and documentation
• Decompose complex problems into straightforward solutions
• Flexible, adapting to meet the needs of the team, project, or product
• Solicit differing views and are willing to change your mind as you learn more
• As a "hands-on" technical leader, split your time between coding, design, and architecture based on where the greatest impact (or in response to job requirements)
• Amplify impact by leading design reviews for complex software projects and/or critical features
• Probe assumptions, illuminate pitfalls, and foster shared understanding
• Align teams toward coherent architectural strategies
• Educate, keeping the engineering community up to date on advanced technical issues, technologies, and trends
• Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 12+ years of experience in building SOA style applications in the cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP) 
• 6+ years of hands-on experience working on large scale Java projects with specific focus on micro services, Spring Boot, or spark scala projects
• 3+ years of experience in working cloud environments - Azure, AWS, GCP
• 2+ years of hands-on experience as a principal-level software engineer
• Experience working in a complex, service-oriented service development
• Experience in working with engineering leaders
• Knowledge of technology stack like Java (Spring Boot), REST APIs, Python
• Good knowledge of cloud related infra, security and networking aspects
• Proven track record of leading application or platform security framework for large-scale, multi-cloud platforms
• Proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, high-quality systems
• Proven exceptional communication skills
• Proven excellent problem-solving skills
• Proven to be highly organized individual

Preferred Qualification:

• Experience using Terraform or other CI/CD IaaC
