Job Description:
A Mining Lab Incharge supervises a laboratory team and manages day-to-day operations to ensure accurate analysis of mineral samples for quality control in mining processes. Key responsibilities include managing staff, overseeing test methods, maintaining equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and analyzing data to inform operational decisions. Qualifications typically include a relevant degree, extensive laboratory experience, and strong leadership and analytical skills. 
Responsibilities
 
  • Staff and Operations Management:Supervise and guide laboratory staff, conduct daily operations, and manage the overall workflow to ensure efficiency. 
  • Quality Control & Data Analysis:Implement and maintain strict quality control procedures, ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results, and analyze data to identify trends and process improvements. 
  • Technical Expertise:Oversee the preparation and analysis of mineral samples using specialized laboratory equipment and potentially develop and validate new testing methods. 
  • Safety & Compliance:Ensure all lab activities and personnel comply with relevant regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards. 
  • Equipment Management:Manage the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. 
  • Reporting & Communication:Prepare and present accurate reports on findings to senior management and collaborate with other teams, such as geologists and engineers. 
Qualifications & Skills
 
  • Education:A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline. 
  • Experience:Significant experience in a metallurgical or mineral processing laboratory, often with prior supervisory or managerial experience. 
  • Technical Skills:Proficiency in laboratory techniques, operating specialized equipment, and applying quality control procedures. 
  • Leadership & Management:Skills in team supervision, training, and development. 
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:Strong ability to analyze test data, troubleshoot technical issues, and identify solutions. 
  • Communication Skills:Excellent communication skills for reporting, collaboration, and staff guidance. 
Key Tasks Example (Coal Testing)
  • Collect coal samples from mine sites or stockpiles.
  • Prepare samples by crushing and grinding them for testing.
  • Conduct standard tests for moisture, ash content, volatile matter, and calorific value.
  • Record all data accurately and maintain laboratory logs and equipment.
  • Manage inventory of chemicals, reagents, and lab supplies.
