Job Description: SS Tube Making Incharge/Production Manager

Job Title: SS Tube Mill Incharge / Production Manager

Department: Production/Manufacturing

Reports To: Plant Head/Operations Head

Experience Required: 5-7 years in SS Tube/Pipe Manufacturing

Location: Pune

1. Job Summary

The SS Tube Making Incharge/Manager is responsible for end-to-end management of the stainless steel tube/pipe production line. This includes planning, machine setup supervision, quality control, manpower handling, process improvement, and coordination with maintenance and dispatch teams to ensure continuous and efficient production as per company standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Execution

• Plan, schedule, and execute daily/weekly production targets for SS tube mill.
• Manage production lines including forming, welding (TIG/HF), sizing, cutting, annealing (if applicable), and polishing.
• Ensure optimum utilization of machines, tools, and manpower.
• Monitor coil consumption, raw material availability, and coordinate with stores/procurement.

Machine & Process Management

• Oversee machine setup and roll changeover for different tube sizes and thicknesses.
• Verify welding parameters, roll alignment, coolant systems, and cutting setups.
• Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed for tube mills, welding units, and all associated machinery.
• Troubleshoot production issues including weld defects, dimensional variations, and machine breakdowns.

Quality Control & Compliance

• Ensure tubes meet quality standards such as ASTM, JIS, or customer-specific requirements.
• Monitor inline quality parameters: OD/ID, thickness, surface finish, straightness, bead quality, and weld integrity.
• Coordinate with QC department to reduce rejection and improve process stability.
• Maintain all documents related to production, quality, and machine maintenance.

Team & Manpower Management

• Lead and supervise operators, helpers, and shift staff.
• Train new employees on machine handling, safety, and quality standards.
• Allocate work responsibilities and monitor employee performance.
• Ensure discipline, teamwork, and productivity across all shifts.

Cost Control & Efficiency Improvement

• Minimize scrap percentage and rework through process improvements.
• Optimize machine running speeds without compromising quality.
• Reduce downtime and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
• Suggest and implement cost-saving initiatives.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and PPE usage.
• Conduct regular safety audits of machinery and workspace.
• Maintain compliance with ISO, environmental, and company standards.

3. Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of SS tube mill operation (TIG/HF welding), roll forming, sizing, and cutting.
• Understanding of metallurgy, welding science, and tube defect analysis.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and production specifications.
• Experience with measuring instruments and QC procedures.

Management Skills

• Production planning and shift management.
• Team leadership and conflict resolution.
• Data-driven decision-making and report analysis.
• Coordination with maintenance, QC, and logistics departments.

Soft Skills

• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

4. Educational Qualification

• B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical.
