Container Surveyor

Job Summary:
The Container Surveyor is responsible for inspecting, assessing, and reporting the physical condition of shipping containers. The role ensures containers meet international standards for safety, seaworthiness, and compliance before and after cargo operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect containers for damages, structural integrity, and cleanliness before and after use.
- Identify, record, and classify damage according to ISO and IICL standards.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports with photographic evidence and repair estimates.
- Coordinate with shipping lines, depot operators, and repair teams to approve and monitor container repairs.
- Verify container numbers, CSC plates, and validity of safety approvals.
- Ensure that containers meet quality and safety requirements before release.
- Maintain accurate records of inspection reports, repair status, and container movements.
- Perform on-hire and off-hire inspections for leased containers.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and safety regulations during inspection work.
- Provide recommendations for repair or condemnation of severely damaged units.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Diploma or ITI in Mechanical / Marine / Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in container yard operations or survey.
- Prior experience in container inspection, repair, or related field preferred.
- Knowledge of container structures, materials, and IICL inspection standards.
- Good understanding of container coding and CSC regulations.
- Attention to detail with strong observation and reporting skills.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office, inspection software).
- Basic English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in outdoor environments.
- GCC experience preferred but not mandatory
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb, bend, and inspect containers in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in port or yard environments.
