Role & responsibilities

An automotive used car evaluator inspects vehicles to assess their condition, determines their market value, and handles related documentation and market research. Key duties include conducting detailed mechanical, body, and interior inspections; performing diagnostic tests and road tests; verifying vehicle paperwork and history; and staying updated on current market trends and pricing to support the negotiation of fair purchase prices. Core responsibilities

  • Vehicle Inspection: Conduct thorough inspections of a vehicle's mechanical, electrical, body, and interior components to identify any defects or damages.
  • Evaluation and Appraisal: Determine the market value of the vehicle by considering its condition, mileage, age, options, market demand, and refurbishment needs.
  • Technical Assessment: Perform diagnostic checks and road tests to evaluate the vehicle's performance and reliability.
  • Documentation Verification: Verify all necessary documents, such as vehicle registration, insurance, service history, and loan clearance.
  • Repair Cost Estimation: Estimate the cost of necessary repairs or refurbishment to bring the vehicle up to saleable standards.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about current market prices, competitor offerings, and industry trends to ensure appraisals are accurate and competitive.
  • Reporting: Document detailed inspection findings, vehicle specifications, and appraisal reports, and provide clear justifications for valuation assessments.
  • Negotiation: Use evaluation findings to negotiate the purchase price with sellers or explain the valuation to customers.
