Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Plumbing Industry (Question Development Specialist)Job Summary

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Plumbing Industry is responsible for developing high-quality technical and assessment questions that evaluate knowledge, skills, and competencies in plumbing systems and practices. The SME ensures that all questions align with industry standards, current regulations, and learning objectives. This role combines deep industry expertise with strong analytical and writing skills to support training, certification, and evaluation programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Question Development:

Create, review, and validate multiple-choice, short-answer, and scenario-based questions related to plumbing theory, design, installation, maintenance, and safety.

  • Curriculum Alignment:

Ensure all assessment items align with course learning outcomes, competency standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Technical Accuracy:

Verify that all content reflects current plumbing codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., IPC, UPC, AS/NZS 3500, local building codes).

  • Difficulty Calibration:

Design questions at appropriate levels of difficulty — from apprentice to master plumber — ensuring fair assessment across learner levels.

  • Question Bank Management:

Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of validated questions, including tagging, categorization, and version control.

  • Peer Review & Quality Assurance:

Participate in item review panels and revise questions based on feedback, psychometric data, or subject updates.

  • Content Development Support:

Provide technical input for training modules, manuals, and certification exams as required.

  • Continuous Improvement:

Stay current with plumbing technology, materials, tools, and industry regulations to keep content relevant.

Qualifications

  • Education:

Diploma or Degree in Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based or remote, with occasional field visits for validation or research
  • Collaboration with instructional designers, trainers, and certification bodies
  • Experience:

Minimum 7+ years of hands-on or supervisory experience in plumbing design, installation, or maintenance.

Prior experience developing technical assessments or training content is highly desirable.

  • Certifications:

Licensed Master Plumber or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, standards, and codes
  • Excellent written communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to translate practical experience into clear, accurate, and fair assessment items
  • Familiarity with e-learning platforms or question authoring tools (an advantage)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Fresher, Internship, Contractual / Temporary, Freelance

Contract length: 12 months

Pay: ₹10, ₹20,000.00 per month

Expected hours: 4 – 8 per week
