Assistant Manager: Validation: Power Electronics

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables Reports ToSenior Manager - EPT Validation, Naveen NR RoleDeputy Manager / Power Electronics Validation LocationLMM-Innovation Center 1, Bangalore Responsibilities & Key DeliverablesYou will lead and execute comprehensive testing, verification, and validation activities for onboard chargers and DC-DC converters at component, system, and vehicle integration levels. You will ensure alignment with DFMEA, project specifications, automotive standards, and previous lessons learned, while proficiently analysing CAN bus data to detect and highlight issues.

Key duties include:
1. Demonstrating strong knowledge of chargers, DC-DC converters, DFMEA processes, project scopes, requirement documentation, and R&D milestones to develop and maintain detailed DVPs (Design Validation Plans).
2. Conducting rigorous hardware testing of power electronics components such as DC-DC converters, onboard chargers, and power distribution units, ensuring functionality and durability across multiple integration levels.
3. Coordinating closely with the validation manager and design teams to discuss, track, and promptly escalate any validation concerns or anomalies.
4. Collaborating with design engineers, suppliers, and testing laboratories to plan test schedules and meticulously monitor validation progress, ensuring adherence to timelines.
5. Estimating and managing validation timelines, circulating progress reports, and tracking testing milestones to ensure delivery commitments are met.
6. Taking the initiative to set up, automate, execute, and troubleshoot test systems per project requirements while generating comprehensive test reports.
7. Applying your expertise in EMI-EMC testing and requirements pertaining to power electronics including Battery Management Systems (BMS), chargers, DC-DC converters, and Vehicle Control Units (VCU).
8. Utilizing specialised tools such as CAN analyser software, CAN data analysis platforms, IG block creation, PCAN interfaces, Busmaster, CRO, power analysers, electronic loads, and data loggers to facilitate accurate and efficient testing.
9. Taking ownership of the validation process to ensure timely completion, supporting cross-functional teams including design, quality, and software to achieve zero defect outcomes.
Providing necessary support to homologation teams to facilitate smooth certification processes related to charger systems.
Applying quality and problem-solving methodologies such as DQA, DFMEA, 8D problem-solving, Why-Why analysis, and fishbone diagrams to identify root causes and drive continuous improvement.

You will be expected to operate independently, make informed decisions, and demonstrate excellent time management, communication, and leadership skills while managing multiple parallel projects and variants within the platform. Experience

We are seeking candidates with 5 to 6 years of hands-on experience specifically in hardware testing of power electronics, focusing on onboard chargers and DC-DC converters. Proven experience in automotive-grade CAN analyser usage and CAN data interpretation is essential to effectively monitor communication protocols and diagnostic signals within vehicle systems.

Candidates should have a background in:

  • Validation planning and execution at component, system, and vehicle levels.
  • Experience with test automation, hardware troubleshooting, and setting up test environments tailored for power electronics.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive standards and compliance testing, especially EMI/EMC.
  • Working collaboratively across cross-functional teams including design engineers, suppliers, and certification bodies.
  • Utilising quality control tools such as 8D reports, Fishbone diagrams, and Root Cause Analysis techniques.

Additional experience in managing and leading cross-functional teams and coordinating validation projects is highly desirable, demonstrating the ability to independently deliver against tight timelines.

Industry Preferred

The ideal candidate will come from an automotive OEM background where experience in power electronics testing at both the component and system levels is well established. A solid understanding of automotive power electronic hardware development, including onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, and associated control units, is required.

Experience gained within the following industries or sectors will provide a strong foundation for success in this role:

  • Automotive manufacturing – particularly companies specializing in electric vehicles (EVs) or hybrid systems.
  • Tier 1 or Tier 2 suppliers focusing on power electronics and battery management systems.
  • Automotive components and systems testing laboratories.

Exposure to organizations that innovate on power electronics and system validation while complying with automotive standards will be highly valued.

Qualifications

To be successful in this position, the following qualifications are expected:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of automotive electrical and electronic component functionality, including power management systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and DQA (Design Quality Assurance) principles.
  • Familiarity with automotive testing standards, including EMI/EMC requirements.
  • Strong proficiency with diagnostic and data analysis tools such as CAN Analyser, PCAN, Busmaster, oscilloscope (CRO), power analysers, electronic loads, and data loggers.
  • Experience using quality and problem-solving methodologies including 8D, Why-Why analyses, and fishbone diagrams for root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and project leadership skills with the ability to liaise effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
