Role Overview:

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and coordination of mechanical systems for hyperscale and colocation data centers. The role involves preparing detailed designs, calculations, and documentation for HVAC, chilled water, and other critical mechanical systems ensuring reliability, efficiency, and scalability aligned with data center standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed mechanical system designs including HVAC, chilled water, CRAC/CRAH, cooling towers, pumps, piping layouts, and ventilation systems.
  • Review heat load calculations, equipment sizing, and CFD analysis to ensure optimal thermal performance and PUE targets.
  • Review schematic and detailed design drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications.
  • Support concept through to detailed design phases and coordinate with architectural and electrical teams.
  • Prepare and review design basis reports (DBR), technical submittals, and design review documents.
  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, and contractors to align designs with project goals and local regulations.
  • Interface with vendors for equipment selection and technical validation.
  • Support initiatives for energy efficiency, low PUE, water reuse, and innovative cooling technologies (e.g., liquid cooling, free cooling).
  • Evaluate new products and technologies for improving data center performance and resilience.
  • Review design clarifications, shop drawing reviews, and site coordination during construction.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred).
  • years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 24 years in data centers or mission-critical facilities.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC design, cooling systems, thermal management, and energy optimization.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience with high-density data center cooling and redundant mechanical systems

  • Exposure to modular and prefabricated MEP systems.
