Job Description:

A Senior Mechanical Fitter installs, maintains, and repairs mechanical equipment, leading junior fitters, interpreting technical drawings, and performing complex troubleshooting to ensure efficient and safe operation of machinery, often in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Key responsibilities include assembling and installing components, carrying out preventive and breakdown maintenance, diagnosing faults, supervising the use of tools and equipment, and maintaining detailed maintenance records, all while adhering to strict health and safety regulations. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Assembly:
    Assemble, dismantle, and install mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, turbines, and conveyors, ensuring all components are fitted correctly according to engineering specifications. 


  • Maintenance & Repair:
    Perform both scheduled preventive maintenance and reactive breakdown maintenance on plant machinery to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency. 


  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
    Identify, diagnose, and provide solutions for mechanical faults and issues in various systems, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems. 


  • Leadership & Supervision:
    Guide and mentor junior fitters, helpers, and contractors during maintenance activities, promoting best practices for safety and quality. 


  • Technical Skills:
    Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals to understand complex systems and components. 


  • Tool & Equipment Management:
    Ensure the proper and safe use of hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic tools. 


  • Safety & Compliance:
    Uphold all company policies and industry safety standards during work activities. 


  • Documentation:
    Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, spare parts used, and any modifications made to the equipment. 


  • Collaboration:
    Work closely with mechanical engineers, maintenance supervisors, and other departments to coordinate work and ensure smooth operations. 



Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Aptitude:
    Strong mechanical understanding and hands-on experience with industrial machinery. 


  • Problem-Solving:
    Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities to quickly resolve mechanical issues. 


  • Technical Knowledge:
    Expertise in areas like fitting, hydraulics, pneumatics, and aligning rotating equipment. 


  • Communication:
    Good interpersonal and organizational skills for effective teamwork and communication. 


  • Experience:
    Proven experience in mechanical maintenance, often 5+ years, with experience in heavy machinery or manufacturing.
