A restaurant waiter/waitress's job description includes providing excellent customer service, from greeting guests and taking orders to serving food and beverages and handling payments. Key duties involve menu knowledge, accurately relaying orders to the kitchen, ensuring guest satisfaction through attentiveness, and maintaining the cleanliness of the dining area. Core responsibilities

• Customer interaction: Greet guests, show them to their tables, and present menus. Answer questions about menu items and specials, and make recommendations to upsell items.
• Order taking and processing: Take food and beverage orders accurately and communicate them to the kitchen staff, often using a point-of-sale (POS) system.
• Service and delivery: Promptly and correctly deliver food and drinks to guests' tables. Check on customers to ensure they have everything they need.
• Table maintenance: Set tables, clear dirty dishes, and clean tables after guests leave to ensure a tidy dining area.
• Payment handling: Prepare and present bills to customers and accurately process payments and make change.

Key skills and qualifications

• Customer service: Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, attentive attitude are essential for creating a positive dining experience.

Additional duties

• Assist with side work, such as rolling silverware and restocking supplies.

• Assist in keeping track of inventory and notifying management when supplies are low.
