Storage Engineer – L1 Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day monitoring of storage and SAN environments.

  • Handle basic storage operations:

  • LUN creation, deletion, expansion

  • Host mapping and zoning changes

  • Monitor alerts and health using:

  • Hitachi Ops Center

  • Storage Navigator

  • Cisco NDFC / DCNM

  • Execute standard change requests following SOPs.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting for storage and SAN issues.
  • Escalate complex incidents to L2/L3 with proper documentation.
  • Maintain operational logs, incident records, and shift handovers.
  • Support backup, restore, and DR activities as per runbooks.
  • Adhere to ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management).

Storage Engineer – L2 Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for storage and SAN-related incidents.
  • Perform capacity planning and performance analysis.

  • Manage and configure:

  • Hitachi VSP arrays

  • Cisco SAN switches (VSAN, zoning, ISLs)

  • Work with Hitachi Ops Center for automation, reporting, and monitoring.

  • Handle firmware upgrades, patches, and health checks.
  • Implement and optimize SAN designs and best practices.
  • Support migration projects (array refresh, data migration).
  • Troubleshoot multipathing, latency, performance bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate with vendors (Hitachi, Cisco, Dell, Pure, Huawei) for TAC cases.
  • Mentor L1 engineers and improve SOPs/runbooks.
  • Participate in DR drills and business continuity planning.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 2–6 years of experience in enterprise storage and SAN environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with Hitachi VSP storage
  • Good knowledge of Cisco SAN switching and zoning
  • Experience with NDFC / DCNM
  • Understanding of FC protocols, multipathing, and storage concepts
  • Exposure to Huawei, Dell EMC, Pure Storage, Brocade is a plus
  • ITIL knowledge preferred

  • Hitachi Certified Professional (HCP)
  • Cisco SAN / Data Center certifications
  • ITIL Foundation
  • Storage-related vendor certifications (Dell, Pure, Brocade)
