Graphical Designer

**Part 1 Describe the Position**

**About the position**:
As a Graphical designer at Xylem, you will be a part of the global **Technical Documentation Group**.

You will develop information through graphical design tools and work closely with marketing, product and **Subject matter Expert** (SME) Engineers in developing product catalogues, data sheets, technical specifications, flyers, technical manuals and more for customers of Xylem products and systems.

As you develop in your role there will be opportunity to move to additional challenges as a specialist in continuous improvement projects, as well as providing training to the business on processes and technology for digital content development.

**About the global Technical Documentation Group**:
This is an R&D team of cross-border technical information experts, responsible for the development of customer product information and dedicated to providing customers with quality results through intelligent content reuse (using XML technologies).

The group mission is to be a single source of Xylem's information content, available globally in reusable form, customer centric, governed by common processes, tools, and controls for multiple publication outputs to multiple channels in multiple languages.

The information developed by this team is used in Installation and Operation Instructions, Service and Repair instructions, Technical Specifications, Spare Parts catalogues, Programming guides, Quick guides, Mounting instructions, product catalogs, and more.

The group consists of a **Content Development (production) team** and a **Documentation Systems team**.

**About the Xylem R&D team in Bangalore**:
This is a shared resource R&D team responsible for developing and maintaining the Xylem product portfolio including pumps, turbines, accessories, monitoring & control systems, water analysis equipment, and documentation for these products.

Content development
- Create and design various materials for digital and print
- Select colors, fonts, images, illustrations and layouts
- Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner with a quality product
- Advise best practices and optimizations throughout design projects.
- Collaborate with fellow designers to develop new approaches for creating more-expressive graphics for the company
- Work with a wide range of media and graphic design software
- Establish creative direction for the company within brand guidelines
- Manage multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions
- Determine voice and messaging for graphic design pieces
- QA design for errors
- Implement feedback and changes whenever possible
- Create visualizations that convey accurate messaging for the project.
- Review the developed contents and design
- Set approval on the English source information
- Request translations
- Publish English original instructions
- Develop procedures for use by Engineering staff

**Part 2 Describe the Person**

**Minimum professional and educational background desired (include years of experience)**

Educational background:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a creative field

Professional experience:
4-6 years (graphical designer) with an international company with English as spoken and written language, or proven example of the equivalent competence level.

**Describe the most important competencies required of the individual. (the most important is first)**
- Proficiency in programs such as Adobe Suite, Photoshop, InDesign, QuarkXPress, and Illustrator
- Render CAD or other 3D models using photorealistic rendering tools.
- Experience in developing technical manuals using InDesign.
- Communicative and very strong in verbal and written English languages
- A keen eye for aesthetics and attention to detail
- Portfolio of work with a wide range of creative projects
- Strong analytical skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Familiarity with HTML and CSS preferred
- Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print, and web
- Experience with both print and digital media
- Basic understanding of computer file formats such as XML, InDesign, Microsoft DocX
- Ability to deliver on made commitments
- Analytic ability; Chunking, grouping, classifying and labelling according to guidelines
- Basic understanding of connected systems, computer networks
- Experienced in Illustration tools and vector
- and raster/photo illustration formats
- Understanding of the Technical Documentation and Localization processes
- Understanding of the publishing pipeline, content exchange and web publishing
- Experience with MS Sharepoint
