**THE BRITISH SCHOOL JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Title: Nurse Practitioner**
**Department: Admin**

**Reports to**:Head of Human Resources**
**Role**:
The primary role of the Nurse Practitioner** **is to support student learning. S/he accomplishes this by managing
the nursing team and implementing strategies that promote student and staff health. The Nurse Practitioner
takes a leadership role in serving as a coordinator of all school health initiatives including those of the Health
and Safety Committee of the school.

**Key Responsibilities**
**Provide First aid, treat basic ailments when necessary, using an approved list of over the counter
medicines, escort students and staff in case of emergencies to the nearest hospital.

Keeping teachers and parents informed of any health concerns of students.
Refer students to the school counsellor in the event of any mental health issues identified by the nurses.
Maintain health records of primary and secondary students, record daily visits of students to the health

room and analyse data for trends that may emerge.
Provide health education to students, staff, and parents.
Identify health and safety concerns in the school and promote a nurturing social environment.
Provide health counseling and relevant referrals when required.
Arrange first aid training and updates.
Arrange and monitor staff health checkups.
Supervise hot lunch service to staff and students and give inputs to maintain a high nutritional quality of

the school meal programme.
Provide additional nursing support during school trips. Arrange for additional nurses during the school

trips, including sourcing and negotiating.
Provide nursing support during school events such as International day, Valediction and Prom.

**Other Responsibilities**
**Report regularly to School Leadership and Health and Safety Committee.
Disseminate health tips to students, staff and parents through daily and weekly bulletin.
Conduct health talks in PSHE lessons.
Keep the Educational Leadership apprised of student health concerns if any.
Contribute regularly to the Health and Safety Committee.
Manage health room budget and supplies.
Manage and coordinate nursing support team.
Assist with nursing staff recruitment; ensure an orientation plan for new staff members and provide

timely feedback; evaluate and schedule training as needed; serve as liaison with physicians /hospitals.
Ensure department activities and records are in adherence to various regulatory requirements and

Health and Safety Policy of the school.
Liaise with outside agencies for the provision of health services, as required.

Implement and interpret policies and procedures related to Health and Safety and nursing standards
and regulations.

Provide useful developmental feedback and confront and develop a plan with school nurses to address
performance and resolve issues.

Relevant experience of 10 years

**Qualification/skills**
***- **Degree in Nursing with post graduate experience
**Personal Attributes**

Previous experience in First aid, Accident and Emergency, School nursing and Occupational health.
Knowledge of health care and medical procedures.
Interpersonal/human relations skills
Strong Communication skills
Attention to detail
Health Incharge skills
Ability to prioritise duties and delegate responsibilities
Ability to use protective equipment and respond to emergency situations
Ability to exert average physical effort
Strong decision‐making skills
