The most common test that neurodiagnostic technologists perform are electroencephalograms (EEGs), which evaluate a patients brain activity. Some of the other procedures they perform include:

- **Autonomic function testing**: These tests help detect dysfunction in the autonomic system.
- **Magnetoencephalography (MEG)**: MEGs detect and record magnetic fields in the brain.
- **Nerve conduction studies (NCS)**: Nerve conduction studies measure how long it takes for a nerve to send an electrical signal to a muscle.
- **Evoked potentials (EP) studies**: This test measures a patients neurological responses and traces their electrical pathways when presented with external stimuli.
- **Polysomnograms (PSGs)**: Neurodiagnostic technologists use polysomnograms to diagnose sleep disorders.
- **Intraoperative neuromonitoring**: This test assesses nerve and brain function during surgical procedures.
- **Long-term monitoring (LTM)**: Neurodiagnostic technologists collect electrical activity over an extended time to use the long-term monitoring technique. They often use this form of testing in intensive care and epilepsy units to diagnose a variety of disorders, including seizures.
- **Surgery**: Neurodiagnostic technologists may assist surgeons in performing surgical procedures. They use monitoring equipment to assess the patient’s status throughout the surgery, such as by monitoring brain function during brain surgery.
