New Delhi, India The Nature Conservancy Full time

**OFFICE LOCATION**:
Central India or Bhopal or New Delhi

**WHO WE ARE**:
This is an exciting time at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as we are shifting our strategy for greater impact in the world, seeking to address some of the most complex challenges facing people and nature — issues such as climate change, conserving lands, waters, and oceans at unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and helping make cities more resilient and sustainable.

**Our Mission**
TNC’s mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Rather than viewing development - including economic growth - and conservation as contradictory goals, TNC works to demonstrate how nature has value for people and development and how nature can provide enormous economic benefit. TNC envisions a future where people and nature can flourish together.

**Our Vision**
A world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfil our needs and enrich our lives.

**The Conservancy Team**
We achieve this through the dedicated efforts of our 3,800 diverse staff, including more than 600 scientists, all of whom support conservation in 76 countries and all 50 United States. We are striving to develop a workforce as diverse as the places where we work, and we have a deep commitment to diversity.

**Organizational History**
TNC is the largest conservation organisation in the world, working in all 50 states in the United States and more than 76 countries. It was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the District of Columbia on October 22, 1951. TNC is science-based and in every place, we work, we partner with governments, businesses, and local communities. TNC is advancing its mission by protecting and restoring rivers, landscapes and oceans for people and their development at an unprecedented scale; it is transforming the way humanity uses the Earth’s natural resources to sustain ourselves.

**WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER**:
The Lands Programme at TNC India has the goal of achieving specific targets related to biodiversity and climate by 2030, along with associated benefits to people. These targets are measured through defined quantitative metrics related to amount and extent, as well as metrics that measure depth and quality. The role of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) manager is to design, implement and maintain a comprehensive MEL programme that enables the Lands Programme to monitor and improve the delivery of projects, thereby improving conservation impact. The MEL manager will undertake this work on a portfolio of projects that include conservation (such as biodiversity conservation outside protected areas and management of community conserved areas), restoration (such as restoration in buffers and corridors of key biodiversity areas and riparian restoration), agroforestry (such as improved market linkages for tree-based products) as well as policy-related work (such as the promotion of Natural Climate Solutions). Existing and planned projects are located within key ecoregions of India including the Himalayas, the Northeast, Western Ghats and Central India.
The MEL manager’s location is expected to be in New Delhi or in Bhopal, although there is potential for flexibility in the location upon mutual agreement. The position will involve frequent travel to all project sites. This position is with an initial one-to-two-year contract, renewable upon mutual agreement.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
The MEL manager will undertake the following functions, in collaboration with the programme lead, relevant project managers and social scientist:
- Define the specific indicators that will be measured at project level, in accordance with organizational priorities and within the framework provided by the Shared Conservation Agenda 2030 goals and associated guidance
- Develop a monitoring system to measure these indicators, which may include field-based data as well as remotely sensed data, and span the biological as well as social sciences
- Build the capacity of programme team as well as implementing partners on the principles and execution of the MEL framework
- Oversee implementation of the MEL system, including collection and maintenance of high-quality data (both spatial and aspatial), at the project level (with implementation partners)
- Periodically evaluate and produce reports on project progress, via visualization as well as analyses of data
- Support subsequent modifications to projects based on the above analyses, in discussion with the programme lead and relevant project manager
- Synthesize learnings and share them within and outside the organization in the form of workshops and papers
- Periodically may have to work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

**WHAT YOU'LL BRING**:
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
