**ROLE OVERVIEW**

Should be fully aware of Bechtel PDP design work processes & procedures.

Reviews & performs the work of designers and drafters of a design group for a business line technology. This work includes the preparation as well as review of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D (CAD) design models and construction drawings.

Should have the experience of leading a team of piping layout designers on the project.

Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.

Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.

Reviews or defines engineering scope changes, as required, for project management.

Endorses or prepares reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use.

Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Participates in one or more of the following:
a) Piping layout design and development

b) Layout studies, including concept sketches and layouts

c) Reviewing and checking designs, drawings and data by other engineers or by suppliers

d) Preparation or review of engineering studies and reports

e) Preparation or review of material quantity estimates

f) Uses engineering computer aided design/computer aided engineering (CAD/CAE) tools.

g) Mentors & trains young piping layout designers

Reviews design documents of equipment manufacturers or subcontractors of moderate to high degree of complexity and prepares comments and recommendations. Assists in preparation of forecasts, quantity take-offs and change orders.

Understands roles played by other disciplines on the project. Contacts counterpart in other disciplines, supplier/client representatives and project field personnel when directed, to either gather or give information. Assists & supports Client Model Reviews as per project requirements.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**

Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria and codes relevant to the discipline.

Knowledge of discipline Design Guides, mathematical formulae and design calculations used in the discipline.

Knowledge of 3D/2D tools, such as SP3D, Microstation etc. applicable to PD&P.

**Working experience on SP3D is mandatory.**

The above is normally acquired through:

- Specialized courses in drafting, design and engineering practices, and CAD, OR
- A recognized degree/ diploma in an engineering or scientific discipline, AND
- Extensive experience in design and drafting.
- Application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems.

Basic skill in oral and written communication.

**Experience Level**: Minimum 25+ years of experience working as Piping Layout Designer and should have executed minimum two to three detail design projects.
