Carefully plan the deployment of Gigamon solutions, considering the network topology and traffic patterns.
- Collaborate with the client's IT teams to ensure the seamless integration of Gigamon devices into the existing network infrastructure.
- Continuously monitor network traffic at various points in the network to capture data packets.
- Manage a network of TAPs and Gigamon Packet Brokers to efficiently and strategically capture network traffic.
- Optimize the placement of TAPs to ensure comprehensive visibility into critical traffic flows.
- Develop comprehensive traffic filtering and segmentation policies to ensure that only relevant traffic is forwarded for analysis.
- Fine-tune filtering rules to isolate and monitor specific traffic types or sources.
- Create detailed flow maps that illustrate network traffic patterns, helping to identify communication paths and dependencies.
- Leverage flow maps for capacity planning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Implement load balancing strategies to evenly distribute network traffic among monitoring and analysis tools.
- Define traffic distribution policies based on the capabilities and capacity of each tool.
- Configure SSL decryption capabilities within Gigamon to inspect encrypted traffic for security analysis.
- Ensure that SSL/TLS decryption is performed in compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements.
- Capture and store network packets efficiently for historical analysis, ensuring that data is available for forensic investigations and troubleshooting.
- Configure packet capture policies to target specific traffic or events.
- Continuously monitor network performance metrics such as bandwidth utilization, latency, and packet loss.
- Detect and investigate performance anomalies to maintain optimal network operation.
- Utilize Gigamon to detect and analyze security threats, including malware, intrusions, and anomalies within network traffic.
- Collaborate closely with the client's security teams to respond to and mitigate threats promptly.

- Ensure that evidence is preserved for legal and compliance purposes.
- Oversee the management and maintenance of monitoring and analysis tools that are integrated with Gigamon.
- Ensure that these tools are updated, configured, and utilized effectively.
- Create and maintain accurate network topology maps that provide visual representations of network segments and device interconnections.
- Use topology maps for network troubleshooting and planning.
- Develop custom scripts or automation workflows to enhance Gigamon's capabilities and tailor its behavior to specific requirements.
- Implement automation to streamline repetitive tasks and optimize data collection.
- Configure alerting rules and thresholds within Gigamon to proactively detect network anomalies or deviations from expected behavior.
- Set up notification mechanisms to promptly inform relevant stakeholders about critical events.
