Resident Medical Officer

A Resident Medical Officer (RMO), often referred to as a Duty Doctor, provides medical care and support to patients in a hospital setting, typically under the supervision of senior staff. They are responsible for diagnosing and treating illnesses, injuries, and other health conditions, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals. RMOs also document patient care, monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and may supervise junior medical staff. Key Responsibilities:
- **Providing medical care**:Diagnosing, treating, and managing patients' conditions, including prescribing medications and recommending procedures.
- **Collaborating with other healthcare professionals**:Working with nurses, specialists, and other medical staff to ensure patient well-being.
- **Monitoring patient progress**:Observing patient responses to treatment and adjusting plans as needed.
- **Documenting patient care**:Keeping detailed records of patient encounters, diagnoses, treatments, and progress.
- **Supervising junior medical staff**:Providing guidance and training to junior doctors and other medical personnel.
- **Responding to emergencies**:Being prepared to handle urgent medical situations and taking the lead as necessary.
- **Ensuring compliance**:Adhering to hospital policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
- **Maintaining records**:Ensuring accurate and up-to-date patient medical records.
- **Participating in rounds**:Attending daily ward rounds to discuss patient care and treatment plans with the team.
- **Communicating with patients and families**:Explaining medical conditions, treatment options, and providing emotional support.
- **Completing certifications**:Certifying deaths, completing death certificates, and reporting unexpected deaths to the coroner.
- **Managing inventory**:Ensuring that all consumables used during procedures are correctly charged to patient accounts and that all policies regarding revenue capture are adhered to.
