**Position Summary**
The Jedi Academy offers a twelve week placement to current-year graduating students or artists with one to
two years experience in VFX. The Jedi Academy provides the opportunity for graduating artists to learn from
highly skilled supervisors and senior artists in the Layout Department. You will get exposure to a variety of
workflows and softwares.
In this paid experience, successful applicants will be carefully placed into the Layout Department and will
work on entry-level shots. ILM’s layout department includes a wide range of skills from camera, matchanim,
object matchmove and creative layout. We also work with state of the art facial capture systems, lensing and
composition for CG shots or sequences, and setting up scenes for subsequent departments to work in. The
artists use both proprietary ILM tools and mainstream software to achieve this.
Graduates who successfully complete the program may be offered a Junior Artist position within the studio.
We are looking for an artist who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, collaborative mindset
and passion for great filmmaking that defines ILM.

What You’ll do

Working in a fast-paced production environment, the Jedi Academy artists work closely with more senior

artists and learn to:

- Establishing shot composition, timing, and continuity
- Camera tracking, object and body matchmove techniques
- Motion-capture and face-cap workflows
- Supporting storytelling through creative layout and camera authoring
- Understanding of cinematography and lenses
- ILM's proprietary tools and pipeline

Job Requirements
Applicants must have graduated from a relevant course within the last 12 months or have one to two years of
Layout and Camera Matchmove experience.

What We’re Looking For
- VFX graduates or junior artists with a genuine passion for a career in layout and cameras
- A basic understanding of digital cameras and CG layout, and passion for technology
- Great collaborators, curious learners with a blend of creative and technical skills
- You have a Bachelor's Degree in VFX, digital media or animation, and/or a reel demonstrating

evidence of your work in layout, and a general understanding of CG.
