**Diagnosis and Treatment of Kidney Diseases**
- Evaluate and treat conditions such as **chronic kidney disease (CKD), kidney stones, glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, and acute kidney injury (AKI)**.
- Perform **kidney function tests, urinalysis, and imaging studies** for accurate diagnosis.
- Prescribe medications and lifestyle modifications to slow the progression of kidney diseases.
**2. Dialysis Management**
- Oversee **hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis** treatments for patients with kidney failure.
- Monitor dialysis patients for complications such as electrolyte imbalances and infections.
- Adjust dialysis prescriptions based on patient needs and medical conditions.
**3. Kidney Transplant Care**
- Assess patients for kidney transplant eligibility and coordinate with transplant teams.
- Provide **pre-transplant evaluations** and **post-transplant care** to ensure the success of the procedure.
- Monitor transplant patients for signs of rejection and adjust immunosuppressive medications accordingly.
**4. Management of Hypertension & Electrolyte Imbalances**
- Treat **hypertension (high blood pressure)**, which is a major cause of kidney disease.
- Manage **electrolyte imbalances** like sodium, potassium, calcium, and acid-base disorders.
**5. Patient Education and Lifestyle Counseling**
- Educate patients about **dietary modifications**, fluid intake, and lifestyle changes to prevent kidney disease progression.
- Advise patients on **preventive measures** for diabetes and high blood pressure, which are key risk factors for kidney disease.
**6. Collaboration with Other Specialists**
- Work closely with **urologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, and transplant surgeons** for comprehensive patient care.
- Coordinate with dialysis technicians, dietitians, and nurses to manage patient treatment plans effectively.
**7. Research and Advancements in Nephrology**
- Stay updated with the latest research in kidney disease treatments and new dialysis techniques.
- Participate in clinical trials and research studies related to nephrology.
**8. Emergency and Critical Care Nephrology**
- Provide care for **critically ill patients** with acute kidney failure in intensive care units (ICU).
- Manage cases of **toxic drug reactions affecting the kidneys** and severe infections leading to kidney damage.
