Integrated Photonics/optics Scientist

SpaceRelays is on the hunt for an exceptional **Integrated Photonics Scientist** to join our founding team and take the lead in developing next-generation optical communication systems for inter-satellite laser links. This is a rare opportunity to shape the foundational technology behind space-based data relay infrastructure and work on innovations that will redefine how data moves in space.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, simulation, and development of integrated photonic systems for space-based optical communication.
- Spearhead the fabrication and testing of photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
- Drive R&D initiatives to translate theoretical concepts into robust, space-grade optical hardware.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and embedded software engineers.
- Build lab setups and test environments for photonic subsystems and validate them rigorously.
- Take full ownership of the product lifecycle, from concept to in-orbit deployment.
- Contribute to building and mentoring a high-performance engineering team as the company scales.

**Requirements**:

- Deep understanding of photonic devices, optical waveguides, and fiber-optic communication systems.
- Solid grasp of digital communication principles (modulation, encoding, signal integrity, etc.).
- Experience with simulation tools like Lumerical (FDTD, MODE, INTERCONNECT), MEEP, or TIDY3D.
- Hands-on work in PIC design, fabrication, and characterization.
- Proficiency in MATLAB and Python for data analysis and simulation.
- Comfortable developing and executing test setups for lab validation.
- Passionate about solving complex engineering problems in a fast-moving startup environment.

**Qualifications**:

- **Bachelor’s degree** in Optics, Photonics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field **with 4+ years of relevant experience**,
- **or**:

- **Master’s degree** in a related field **with 2+ years of relevant experience**,
- **or**:

- **PhD** in a relevant domain (fresh PhDs are welcome to apply).

Nice to Have
- Experience working with space-grade or aerospace/defence-grade optical systems.
- Familiarity with reliability standards for space systems (thermal/vibration tolerance, radiation effects, etc.).
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.
- A genuine love for space tech and an ambition to build transformative infrastructure.

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹65,000.00 per month

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability

Supplemental Pay:

- Performance bonus
