Assist the physician in providing medical care to patients
- Obtain patient histories and vital signs
- Perform physical examinations and diagnostic tests
- Counsel patients on health maintenance and disease prevention
- Assist in surgery and other medical procedures
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and X-rays
- Prescribe medications and treatments
- Instruct patients on taking their medications and following their treatment plans
- Refer patients to specialists and other health care professionals as needed
- Keep accurate medical records
- Manage the physician’s schedule and appointments
- Handle billing and insurance paperwork
