vMD tech assist Pvt Ltd is hiring for the role of ER Coder with the minimum experience of 1 year.

Overview:
The Emergency Medicine Coder is responsible for accurately assigning medical codes to emergency department (ED) encounters in accordance with established coding guidelines and regulations. This role involves reviewing medical records, extracting relevant information, and assigning appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to ensure proper reimbursement and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Emergency Medicine Coder plays a crucial role in revenue cycle management by facilitating accurate billing and documentation of ED services.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Coding and Documentation:

- Review electronic medical records (EMRs) and other relevant documentation to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for emergency department encounters.
- Ensure that codes accurately reflect the diagnoses, procedures, and services provided during the ED visit.
- Adhere to official coding guidelines, conventions, and compliance regulations (e.g., CMS, AHIMA, AAPC) in assigning codes.
- Resolve coding discrepancies and discrepancies between documentation and coding through appropriate channels (e.g., queries to physicians, clinical documentation improvement).

2. Quality Assurance:

- Perform coding audits and reviews to assess the accuracy and completeness of coding assignments.
- Identify coding errors, omissions, and discrepancies, and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, coding leadership, and other stakeholders to address coding-related issues and implement process improvements.

3. Compliance and Regulatory Requirements:

- Stay current with updates to coding guidelines, regulations, and reimbursement policies relevant to emergency medicine coding.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and other privacy requirements in handling protected health information (PHI).
- Adhere to documentation and coding standards to support accurate and defensible claims submission.

4. Communication and Collaboration:

- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, coders, and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and resolve coding-related queries.
- Collaborate with revenue cycle management, billing, and compliance teams to ensure accurate and timely claim submission.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and educational sessions to promote understanding of coding and documentation requirements.

5. Training and Education:

- Provide training and education to ED staff members on coding principles, documentation requirements, and compliance guidelines.
- Develop educational materials, job aids, and resources to support ongoing learning and professional development.
- Mentor and support junior coders and new hires in developing coding proficiency and expertise.

Qualifications:

- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential or equivalent coding certification (e.g., CCS-P, COC) required.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of coding experience in emergency medicine or a related healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, with knowledge of emergency medicine-specific codes and guidelines.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and coding platforms.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to accurately abstract and assign medical codes from complex documentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of medical coding and compliance.
