Security Guard

A security guard's job description involves protecting people and property by patrolling premises, monitoring surveillance equipment, and controlling access points to prevent theft, violence, or other infractions. Key duties include responding to alarms and emergencies, investigating security breaches, and maintaining detailed reports of daily activities and incidents. This role requires strong communication skills, a calm demeanor, and the ability to follow protocols. Core responsibilities
- **Patrol and monitor**: Conduct regular patrols on foot or in a vehicle to monitor for suspicious activity, hazards, or policy violations.
- **Surveillance**: Watch and operate surveillance cameras (CCTV) and other security equipment to identify security breaches or illegal acts.
- **Access control**: Monitor and control entry and exit points for vehicles and people, verifying identification and ensuring only authorized personnel are on the premises.
- **Emergency response**: Respond quickly to alarms and emergencies, such as fires, medical incidents, or security breaches.
- **Incident response**: Investigate incidents, take appropriate action (such as detaining trespassers), and coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.

Documentation and reporting
- Maintain detailed logs of daily activities, including visitor entries, patrols, and incidents.
- Prepare and submit incident reports, documenting observations and actions taken.

Essential skills and qualifications
- Strong observation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound judgments in stressful situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR is often required.
- High school diploma or GED is typically the minimum requirement.
- Previous experience is often preferred but not always necessary.
